Comments: Shocking News

Speaking of ECT I just got an email from an ECT survivor named Sue Clark . She and her husband made some youtube videos, audio is out of sync but they are short in length. I posted the links on my blog.

Crazy amplified. A blogger I've been reading for a year or so is undergoing ECT. It is the one "treatment" I truly fear...

Necessary post, FS. Thank you.

ECT was the biggest mistake I made in my adult life.

And it destroyed my writing career. I wish I had known about Hemingway before I was convinced to have it by a zealous shrink and a fantastic health insurance policy which covered everything including the shrinks frappicino's.

If I had Papa's gun I would eat it. I miss my ability to write more than anything. It was who I was. Now I am nothing. It's living death.

18 months ago an influential person in the [Childhood Bipolar Disorder]mental health arena suggested to me to ask my [at the time inpatient]daughter's psychiatrist about ECT. At the time she was appearing medication resistant. I had NO intent on asking for it for her, at all. But out of curiousity I asked the psychiatrist his thoughts on ECT.

"With[my] 30 years experience I would never suggest that." Thankfully!

This is an outrageous, inhumane and barbaric treatment being performed on an innocent person within a psychiatric institution in 2007. Unbelievable. I'm writing my letter.

SURVEY OF THE PROVISION OF ELECTRO-CONVULSIVE THERAPY (ECT)AT NEW YORK STATE PSYCHIATRIC CENTERS
BY THE COMMISSION ON QUALITY OF CARE-2001

"Creedmoor mandates that two psychiatrists, neither associated with the ECT unit, must certify that a patient lacks the capacity to give informed consent because of impaired mental ability to comprehend the nature of the need for ECT, and they must further certify that the patient does not object."

re:anonymous "I would eat it"
You wrote sentences that make perfect sense, so you can still write. It may be difficult to write, but you can, so saying you can't write is false.

The second most powerful effect of psychiatry (after physical damage) is the trick of making someone believe they are broken or defective.

Wizard's First Rule

People are Stupid

"People can be made to believe any lie because they want to believe it is true, or because they are afraid that it is true.

I really fear to hear the term ECT, I witness of its horrible affect on my aunt. Treatment is for cure diseases, not for creating other troubles...
