Comments: Another Seroquel Related Arrest
Seroquel being abused this way should be investigated by the FDA or whatever agency that does anything for public health safety---and make this drug a controlled substance!
It also should be researched for withdrawals, as I personally had severe withdrawals equal to that of Xanax (my brain felt it was on fire, the shakes, diarhea, feeling of hands detached from body, zaps from finger tips and more).
My blog stats have continual searches for 'seroquel withdrawal'.
Also, some searches for 'snorting Abilify'.
Yeah we really need antipsychotics being used for depression, anxiety, fear of public speaking, and insomnia.
Just my opinion, for what it's worth.

There are reports of nutmeg abuse. There are a lot of reports of Benadryl abuse. Dextromethorphan in cough syrup too. The point is that a certain kind of people abuse lots of weird drugs - it doesn't mean it's ever going to catch on and be a major problem.
Philip Dawdy responds: very cute, but you are missing the point. seroquel is being used as a get you low drug in prisons and among teens around the us and the arrests for seroquel possession are kind of a constant now. i don't think you can say the same for nutmeg.

Well yes, Dexthromethorphan is abused, in large quantities equates to Ecstacy. BUT...that is an OTC cough medication, not a prescribed antipsychotic. And please, nutmeg compared to Seroquel? give me a break!

Stephany: Obviously nutmeg is a ridiculous drug to abuse. My point is that most drug users would consider Seroquel ridiculous too. *Someone* in the world will abuse any drug you can name, it doesn't mean that drug is especially problematic

Seroquel... I know many pot smokers who abuse this when they cannot get their hands on weed. I see from the other posts that this is a downer. I've seen more and more drug users turning to prescription drugs....some gaining them by legal means or illegal means.
I am new to this board ....

I took Seroquel for anxiety in high school and ended up falling asleep in all my classes. I told my parents that the drugs were making me tired and they told me that it wasn't the drugs and that I was staying up too late and I needed to get more sleep. I kept telling them it wasn't that, the drugs were making it so my eyes were closing and I was falling asleep in class and I couldn't control it. The teachers got mad at me and my parents didn't believe it wasn't the drug. Years later, my dad still doesn't believe that Seroquel was the reason I was falling asleep in all my classes.

I consider Seroquel 'especially problematic' because the medical establishment does not acknowledge the abuse of it, it has a black box warning for diabetes, and was rx'ed off label, it is an antipsychotic being brushed into mainstream fast and furious by AstraZeneca, to the point they fought in court to prevent going generic last summer. They kept their precious patent in place thru 2012, the cost outrageous, created Seroquel XR and it won't be long until use in kids gets approved.
The fact that it's such a dangerous drug, with abuse potential and withdrawals documented by patients that equate to benzo withdrawals, has a street market value, but was intended to assist schizophrenics with it's use....let's just say ask the prison inmates why they abuse it, why the teens are starting to, and then ask why a prescribed drug is so easy to ignore when all of this is happening.
Rebecca Riley was age 4 when that drug killed her.
The drug has more problems that it has benefits...and the lawsuits have only just began for AstraZeneca.
To each his own opinion, especially once harmed by these drugs it's hard to keep quiet.
