January 26, 2010AstraZeneca Exec Was Pressed To Lie About Seroquel Weight GainWell, this ought to be fun for AstraZeneca to explain in court. The BBC is reporting that a former UK AZ executive was pressed by AZ marketing execs to lie about weight gain issues with Seroquel in the late-1990s. "John Blenkinsop, the company's former UK medical manager, claimed he was pressurised by the company's marketing arm to approve claims about the drug which he felt did not reflect the medical evidence. Of course, this weight gain would have absolutely nothing to do with diabetes associated with the use of the drug, so there's no need for the public to know. Seroquel does not cause weight gain or diabetes according to cleverly placed and appointed federal judges. Not to mention a billion dollar plus legal and propaganda campaign. Spend enough money lobbying congress and the president, and you can prove in court that the earth is indeed flat after all. All those who do not fall in line with the "earth flat" agenda are labeled mentally ill, radical fringe elements, and are ostracized from society. Hell! you could have did the right thing and PREVENTED TRAGEDY and life altering harm done to patients who have taken that drug, knowing what you did, shame on you Blenkinsop! Posted by: Stephany at January 26, 2010 08:19 AMInteresting comment thread at Pharmalot re: all of this and more, with candid comments from those involved: http://www.pharmalot.com/2010/01/the-rise-of-marketing-based-medicine/ Blankinsopp, the AstraZeneca ex employee discusses (and clarifies) how he couldn't speak out before now; and one author (Parry)of new paper discussing Marketing based Medicine, gives kudos to Philip and Furious Seasons for hosting the Zyprexa documents.
