12-Year-Old Busted For Seroquel Possession

When a 12-year-old girl in Florida gets busted for possession and intent to distribute Seroquel, then the easy availability of psych meds has gotten way, way out of hand. She reportedly got the drug, along with a painkiller from a 16-year-old. That's out of hand too. The girl was apparently OD'ing at home, her mother figured it out and got her to a hospital. What the hell is happening to this country?

That is absolutely amazing. I remember being shocked when I heard that seroquel was smuggled into and dealt in prison under the code name "baby heroin." At least in prison I can understand the benefit of dulling all feelings and emotion.

But, this is a 12 year old!!! What kind of "high" are these kids after chasing anti-psychotics? Truly insane.

This does not surprise me, nor is it such new behavior. I began experimenting with mind and mood-altering substances in grade school, as did other kids. We inhaled airplane glue, cleaning fluids (Carbona) and gasoline, we drank alcohol, we took pills and we smoked grass. That kids today are using anti-psychotics and painkillers is because such substances are available.

Such substances are available because they are making some people very very rich, AND a nation of people doped out of their heads have little chance of organizing and rebelling against the powers that be. Killing two birds with one stone, eh.

What shocks me about this story.... is that I was prescribed this med years ago for sleep. It causes weight gain, and a host of other crappy symptoms... but still I am taking it to get to sleep. I had no idea that one could get 'high' on this. The pharmaceutical companies are making a fortune on stringing all of us out.. why can't doctors refrain from falling into that mess? Or are they paid by the pharm companies to prescribe it?

Unfortunately this doesn't surprise me. The 16-year-old sees a parent(or whoever) get loopy and serene on a couple of easily accessible drugs and decides its the way to go in terms of distribution. Angst ridden preteen wants to check out emotionally and you have a recipe for disaster.

Here the big thing is locking away the adderall. For now. Aside from the candy parties(when kids bring pills from their parents cabinets)
