Vic Chesnutt Dead At 45, Possible Suicide
t's with a lot of sadness that I pass along news that the great singer-songwriter Vic Chesnutt died yesterday, aged 45. He'd been in a coma and some reports indicate that was as the result of a suicide attempt. A paraplegic since a car accident in his teen years, Chesnutt was reportedly facing $70,000 in medical bills due to recent surgery and was unable to pay. I have no idea if that fed into his possible suicide attempt.
I once saw Chesnutt play a show in San Diego back in 1992 or so. I bought a cassette tape of his wonderful album "West of Rome" off him at the show and chatted with him for a bit. Nice guy. It sucks that he's gone. RIP.

I'm sure a 70K bill is unlikely to improve anyone's world view. That sucks.
All the NY papers were reporting it as suicide yesterday as well. Some of the proof they were using were his songs- but then, he was discovered by someone I adore- Michael Stipe- and he's written some pretty sad songs on the same topic too.
This was truly a bad year to loose so many great, talented people.
R.I.P. Vic!
I don't know what to say. As always suicides is not reported with all the informations so that we can make an opinion.
I just hope it was not drug-induced. No one should die because of drug-induced violence whether taking someone's life or it's own.
he was a friend of mine...
