November 23, 2009Katie Is GoneAt 3.47 p.m. today I put my dear sweet cat Katie to sleep. She'd continued to lose weight the last few days, even with me feeding her, and she was in pain this morning and growling at me when I tried to feed her, so I went and did the right thing. I spent a peaceful afternoon with her and just as I was about to pick her up and put her in the cat carrier a huge crow landed on my window sill and Katie ran to the window. She and the crow had a minute-long stare down and then it flew off. I know what that was about. Katie had a great spirit and the forces of the Universe were saying good-bye to her. As I did holding her paws. I did everything I could for her the last week and fought her leaving very intensely, but her vet thinks she had developed cancer and would likely only have had another month or so, even if she had bounced back. I'll try to resume normal posting in the morning. Posted by Philip Dawdy at November 23, 2009 04:06 PM

((((((((Katie))))))) Posted by: susan at November 23, 2009 04:26 PMI'm sorry Philip. Yes, sometimes there are signs that we just can't explain and they remind us of the very great mystery that life and death really are. Peace be with you and blessings on little Katie. May the memories of the bond you had with her always be in your heart. Posted by: Sara at November 23, 2009 04:32 PMI'm so very sorry Philip. I know we all had such hope she would pull through. Posted by: Meg at November 23, 2009 05:16 PMWow. I'm literally crying. I remember so vividly that day, for my 18 year old Kittie who I had my whole life until 18. : ( I'm so sorry. We know they have to go, but we never want them to. Posted by: rox at November 23, 2009 05:34 PMOh, I am sorry to hear this. Poor little Katie. Lucky she had such a great owner (not that anybody ever really "owns" a cat). Katie was very lucky to have a friend like you, who put her comfort and happiness first. {{{hugs}}} Gypsy & Tasha & Karen (Mum) Posted by: Gypsy & Tasha at November 24, 2009 03:48 AMI'm so very sorry that you've lost your beloved Katie. Posted by: NurseExec at November 24, 2009 04:11 AMI am literally shedding tears for you and Katie. So sad. Take care of yourself. Posted by: Miranda at November 24, 2009 06:15 AMIt's so hard to love these creatures whose life span is shorter than ours. It's quite clear Katie was ready to go. Being sick is very hard on an animal. My vet says that a lot of times cancer and other diseases show no signs until the very end. He believes it's nature's way of ensuring they don't suffer in the wild. I'm so sorry you had to say good-bye to such a good little friend. Posted by: Sherry at November 24, 2009 07:26 AMOh God bless you both. I know there are no words now so I have many prayers and hugs for you. Posted by: Lili at November 24, 2009 08:41 AMWe're so very sorry to hear your lovely kitty died. But she was obviously very loved and you did your very best by her ~ and that's as much as any cat would want. We are so so sorry to hear about the passing of your friend Katie. Your story touched us and our hearts ache for you right now. It looks as if she had much love in her life. Bless you. Glogirly and my cat Katie Posted by: Glogirly & Katie at November 24, 2009 12:38 PMWe read about Katie on the Cat Blogosphere. We're so sorry to hear that she has gone to the Bridge. Sniffie and the Florida Furkids Posted by: Sniffie and the Florida Furkids at November 24, 2009 03:33 PMI am so very sorry, Philip, about Katie. She had a very good daddy & was/is a very lucky kitty. To love someone so much as to "do the right thing" for them is indeed a love no greater than any man/woman has known. She'll be waiting for you on the other side of the Bridge, when it's your turn to join her. I have my own furry family members waiting for me as well. Take good care. ~Andrea Posted by: Andrea at November 24, 2009 04:02 PMI am so sorry that Katie had to be helped to the Rainbow Bridge. Doing the right thing is so very hard. Posted by: Karen Jo at November 25, 2009 11:58 PMI'm so sorry to hear about this, Philip. May Katie rest in peace. You did the right thing.
