Weirdest Comment Ever On This Site

And thus well worth highlighting since it comes in response to the JAMA study which found that antipsychotics are putting tons of fat on youngsters.

"I think this report smells fishy. Smells like the work of anti-psychiatry Scientologists. Psychiatric medications are a healthy part of a balanced lifestyle for the majority of children with childhood bipolar disease, a serious but treatable medical condition.

"My child has bipolar disorder and I've come to learn that her rages have nothing to do with me and that this is a highly genetic biological brain-based disorder.

"We have her on eight meds prescribed by the director of our local university clinic and we've received extensive psychoeducation about the nature of her disease. Additionally, my husband and I attend a support group three times a week for parents of bipolar children at the hospital.

"I trust very much in the power of medicine and am very thankful for the big glitzy university hospital where we live. Her neuropsychopharm says that when taken as prescribed, her medicines including the atypicals are safe and effective. They're all FDA approved drugs anyway.

"Studies like this are done by stupid Scientologists that don't understand brain-based disorders."

Speaks for itself.

That's *got* to be a spoof.

Lol ROFL now. I'm expecting the low-voiced rapidly speaking woman chime in with the disclaimer now.

I don't believe this "comment" for one minute. It is someone having a little fun and getting a dig in at Scientologists - all in one fell swoop.

No physician would put a child on eight medications. That is malpractice.

Posted by: Rosie at October 28, 2009 12:08 PM

Oh please let that be sarcasm. If it's real, I really feel for that child.

Posted by: kimbriel at October 28, 2009 12:17 PM

I think Francesca might be on to something. Doesn't that have spoof written all over it? Otherwise it's one of Michael Schofield's cronies trying to get one back. Crazy!

"They're all FDA approved drugs anyway."

THAT is the problem with parents and doctors who have no current knowledge regarding the FDA and conflict of interest, and fast tracking of dangerous medications such as the new approval of Saphris, which was deemed not safe for approval one year before the recent approval.

If the "weirdest comment" ever author were to read fine print about all psych meds they will come to their own conclusion without the help of a psychopharmacologist.

If only this was a joke. Unfortunately Zyprexa and Seroquel lawsuits abound, the internal documents are proof enough that the company was taking a chance to make money off of children by marketing off-label use as well as covering up the diabetes and weight gain issues.

After a young child has been drugged from approximately age 7- 17, only then will time show the bodily damage done. Permanent damage.

For that reader, I would recommend watching PBS (online for free)Medicated Child and watch some of those kids shake and tremor, and that is forever damage.

I stopped at the first "scientology/anti-psychiatrist".
Can't take it any longer.

I am not going to make a direct accusation, or say this person is or related to "Marcie Lipsitt".

But if you read back in the FS comment section archives. They sound disturbing similar, while touting the same mirror ideology.

I believe it should be pointed out that as absurd as this featured comment may appear on the surface. This is fairly standard rhetoric out of the BPKids organization where Harvard's Dr. J. Biederman is on the advisory board.

Posted by: Observer at October 28, 2009 01:26 PM

Ok, obviously this whole think was tongue-in-cheek, and to pick up where Observer started yes, I actually did rip some of the language from the bpdkids website and it was in fact, that website, which I peroused last night that inspired this comment.

And subtle sarcasm not withstanding, it is pretty much the standard line of a lot of the childbpd'ers -- which is insane. Unfortunately it was also sort of the mindset of people in my family when I was younger. Iv'e commented a lot about that here. I sort of feel like I can dance in those shoes well so to speak -- owing to my experience.

At anyrate, if anyone got the tonque-in-cheek format and I made you laugh that was my real intention. Im trying to not be so bitter about these criminals. And it was also my intention to make it sound as robotic and as like an advertising tag line as I could.

Anyway, sorry Philip if you were questioning the veracity of it, but I think we can agree its not completely out of bounds for the Biederman apologists et al.

I vote that it is a spoof of Marcie Lipsitt. She, however, is the real deal.

Posted by: medsvstherapy at October 28, 2009 01:55 PM

I've looked into this Marcie Lipsitt lady who I had not known about before, but coming from a family where my mother *enjoyed* bringing me into the grand holy MGH for endless appointments with "experts" (because of the effects of massive polypharmacy), I can say with some confidence that this lady has FULL-BLOWN Manchausen's Syndrome by Proxy. Like full-blown. Her half intelligible writings outline the picture of a woman with poor to horrific boundaries and who's child is unfortunately, as she herself says, "the center" of "her universe".

If she couldn't play the role of heroic mother what else would she do? That lady is a nucking fut and her child deserves boundaries and a life of his own.

Thats my piece.

Posted by: JC at October 28, 2009 02:50 PM

Sort of Poe-like. No?

Posted by: Dr X at October 28, 2009 03:42 PM

I think JC is a satirist of Swiftian proportions. Well done, JC, and thanks for the laughs.

Posted by: Francesca Allan at October 28, 2009 05:08 PM

I agree that this is a spoof. No one could have these sentiments. I think the EIGHT medications is a dead give away.

Posted by: Tom at October 28, 2009 05:33 PM

"They're all FDA approved drugs anyway."

Anonymous,
Did he/she say that?
Yes! I laugh a lot when people use this argument. The problem is that people trust FDA.
They are not informed that FDA is part of the consortium and don't give a damn for health.
Sad.

Posted by: Ana at October 28, 2009 06:41 PM

It is a spoof. But are you being tongue-in-cheek too Tom? The eight meds part is from my life's story! lol

Posted by: JC at October 28, 2009 06:44 PM

JC, you're good!

Yeah, there's where the Modest Proposal comparisons fall through-- no one ever tried to eat Jonathan Smith.
