Lilly Settles South Carolina Zyprexa Claims For $45 Million

News is out that the State of South Carolina nad Eli Lilly have reached a $45 million settlement over the state's lawsuit against Lilly over its handling of Zyprexa.

"South Carolina and other states argued Eli Lilly:

"Did not properly warn of the drug’s side effects, including heart problems, diabetes, hyperglycemia and an increased risk of death in patients with dementia.

"Falsely marketed the drug to treat other illnesses, including depression and attention deficit disorder."

Oh yes.

Eli Lilly has made $38 billion on Zyprexa and it was way oversold and caused diabetes and in some cases sudden death.
Eli Lilly has received a huge criminal fine over their Zyprexa cash cow,add it all up comes to $4.6 billion, in Zyprexa settlements, fines, litigation.

Addictive Zyprexa was pushed by Lilly Drug Reps.
They called it the "Five at Five" (5 mg at 5 pm to keep nursing home patients subdued and sleepy) and "VIVA ZYPREXA" (Zyprexa for everybody) campaigns to off label market Eli Lilly Zyprexa as a fix for unapproved usage.

Eli Lilly is 'reaping the whirlwind' for aggressive marketing of Zyprexa that has caused suffering and deaths.
There must be millions out there harmed by this drug.

There has been lots of press coverage on state and federal litigation but little on that by individual plaintiffs.

It was fortuitous for Eli Lilly that many of those injured by Zyprexa were persons with mental health issues and individuals with dementia. Let's see .... the South Carolina Attorney General estimated that 64,000 South Carolina residents alone were affected by Zyprexa yet nationally only about 80,000 have sued Eli Lilly over Zyprexa individually. Moreover, the Zyprexa settlements with individuals to date are approximately 1.2 billion where the Vioxx settlements came to almost $5 billion.

In the world's most litigious nation Eli Lilly lucked out by targeting populations which may be the least likely to litigate.

This is like me paying a dime for doing 103 in a 70. (Yep I did that.)

When you think past the medical/pharma money related gains think of the bed sharing that potentially goes on from one drug.

Weight gain-any and all diet meds, personal trainers, gym memberships, home exercise equipment, expensive foods/diets, money on clothes, hair, makeup to appear "better", self-help mags, videos, self-help gurus, etc.

Side effects-More meds, more doctors, hospitalization, more therapy, alternative therapies paid out of pocket, erratic behaviors causing self-harm, involuntary institutionalization, other-focused harm, jail time, lawyer fees, bail, etc.

Addiction-more meds, more therapy, detox programs, more alternative therapies, more hospitalization, erratic behaviors and that chain of events.

I could go on...so when you look at ONE drug, look at every industry that is being supported.

Then look back at 45 million. Maybe it wouldn't even represent a dime.
