Harvard Psychiatrist Stabbed, Patient/Attacker Killed

Yesterday, a tragedy occurred at one of Massachusetts General's buildings. A patient attacked a psychiatrist named Astrid Desrosiers with a knife, reportedly inside the Massachusetts General Hospital Bipolar Clinic & Research Program. An off-duty security guard shot and killed her assailant, identified as Jay Carciero, after he refused to surrender and put down his knife. Desrosiers is reportedly is serious, but stable condition. I wish her a continued and speedy recovery.

I'm sure we'll learn more about this tragedy in the near future.

Seeing this happened at a clinic, I'm wondering if the patient was on medication at the time. And, if he was, I'm expecting E. Fuller Torrey to studiously ignore this case.

A patient attacked a psychiatrist...
Hmmmm... I think about doing the same every time I go to take the paper signed by him that makes me able to by the drugs I only have to take because of addiction yes, physical addiction.

I have already stopped trying to make him see what exactly happened to me.
He forgets what I report even the most terrible side effects and the withdrawal symptoms that lasted after being off Effexor for three months.
It took me 19 months in hell to taper this drug to finally discover that I had to go back to it.
As David Healy says in his protocol a group of people simply cannot withdraw.

Include me in.

This psychiatrist is one of the best in Rio de Janeiro.

He make researches...
I'll stop here.

I don't understand why only this tragedy was reported by mainstream media.
I live in front of two mental institutions.
The "stories" I hear...

I believe that if I lived in front of two penitentiaries it would not be different or even more calm.

sorry for the mistakes but I don't read what I write here again or I'll not click on Post

Physicians are in danger once in a while from their patients because the meds they are on can make them extremely violent. Here is a case on www.SSRIstories.com where a woman shot her doctor[fortunately he survived] and said that she began feeling violent when she took Prozac. Happened a long time ago - back in 1991 - so all of this has been going on for a long time. Tragic. Here is the story [in part]:

http://www.ssristories.com/show.php?item=1702

Paragraph one reads: "Warren County Circuit Judge J. David Francis denied a request for a new trial for Rebecca McStoots, who was convicted of assault in the March 1990 shooting of a Bowling Green doctor."

Paragraph five reads: "Thompson claimed during the trial that side effects of the drug Prozac, an anti-depressant, caused McStoots to shoot the doctor. The drug has been blamed as a triggering agent in violent acts nationwide, but its manufacturer has denied the accusations."

Here is another case of a patient shooting a physician. This woman killed a prominent doctor at Massachusetts General Hospital - in his office at the hospital-and then killed herself. Here is the story [in part]

http://www.ssristories.com/show.php?item=384

Paragraph 12 states: "As investigators and Mitchell's own family continued to search for answers, it appeared yesterday that the only clear sign of turbulence in her life lay in the two bottles of pills police found in her apartment: prescriptions for Wellbutrin and Zoloft, commonly used antidepressants".

In shooter's apartment: ammo, antidepressants

Late Tuesday night, hours after Colleen Mitchell shot a prominent cardiologist at Massachusetts General Hospital and then killed herself, Boston police opened the door to the tiny, Beacon Hill apartment where the secretary lived alone.

One more case of a physician injured by man [on Paxil] - I will post this and then quit because I am busy with other things.

http://www.ssristories.com/show.php?item=2369

Paragraph two reads: "John Francis Bradley from Academy Road, denies a charge of common assault
against Dr. Ian Palin. He's alleged to have committed the offence in the doctor's surgery on May 15, 2006, when they had a disagreement about the defendant's continued use of the anti-depressant drug Seroxat [Paxil].

The story should be about the patient who was shot and killed by a security guard. The MHP is alive. No trial was conducted before the patient was murdered. Hopefully the security guard will face trial and his innocence or guilt will be determined as will what the murdered man may or may not have actually done before he was killed.

To look at this story and see "Psych patient stabs doctor" is to embody all that is wrong with psychiatry and psych labels.

I can't see the security guard being charged in this instance.

My former psychiatrist is lucky to be alive.
She doesn't even know it (very observant) but I almost became violent my 2nd to last visit. I'll never forget the thoughts that went through my head and the rage that was filling my body that day. Adverse reactions to her treatments of myself and my son left me fantasizing for months of violent ways to get even. The less violent parts included shaving her head (hair loss should be taken seriously).
She's lucky I didn't continue to take her advice and prescriptions.

I can't help wondering if maybe this was a case of mistaken identify, and one of the Biederman Gang might have been the target.

But then I suppose "birds of a feather flock together."

@ Damaged 6:32 I understand exactly where you're coming from, but you did the right thing by leaving her alone. Psychiatrists are subhuman pieces of garbage that simply aren't worth sullying your hands over. I wouldn't pee on those people if they were on fire.

"Violence is a personal necessity for the oppressed...It is not a strategy consciously devised. It is the deep, instinctive expression of a human being denied individuality."
