Beyond Meds Goes On Hiatus

Most of you are familiar with the excellent blog Beyond Meds and the rough go its author, Gianna Kali, has had withdrawing from decades of psych meds. Kali has announced that she's gone on a hiatus from blogging:

"I’ve stopped updating the blog to finish my detox and healing without the scrutiny of the public which has simply became too much. The end of withdrawal is generally recognized to be the most difficult and it’s been almost 6 years of withdrawal for me."

For whatever reason, her site began attracting a bunch of stalkers and haters--mostly from the anti-psychiatry world, oddly enough--and it's all become a bit much for her to deal with. I wish her well and look forward to her return someday.

I think her site is an important resource for people having issues with meds and withdrawal (I've learned a lot from her) and I think she deserves everyone's respect.

Gianna is doing the absolute best thing for herself and I am proud of her for it.

I'm really going to miss her contributions. I hope it's not permanent. I learned a lot from her site and the social network she created as well.

You're right. Gianna's site was/is a wonderful resource. She truly deserves to take care of herself!

Gianna,
I do wish you the best and support your choice. But don't be a stranger here, do drop by from time to time.
Ya done good, girl!

abuse is really NOT why I signed off…it may have been a catalyst, but more than the abuse was the hundreds of seekers of SUPPORT…lovely, wonderful, people, many of whom I had the pleasure of helping and that for a long time was very healing for me.

the thing is, now I need help and support. And it’s no longer enough to help others as it was for a long time. While I did get a ton of support from my readers, I also had to expend much too much energy in keeping up all that was created by that blog.

and so that’s the real story…the trolls and abusers really only being a small part of why I left and not the biggest part either. I simply need to rest…I am bedbound and wheelchair bound now for the most part after all and it’s from exhaustion.

I have been feeling great relief, while also mourning the loss of an amazing community of people.

I was working between 40 and 80 hours a week easily in my compromised condition. THAT is insane. I need to take care of myself and so that is what I'm doing.

my blog now has at the top of the page links to dozens of pages of information to aid in the research to more safely withdraw or live a life without meds.

My situation is grossly unusual and my medication history grossly extreme. Hundreds of people have written to me now telling me the research I did helped heal them and helped them avoid a future like mine.

the blog is a resource. please use it and spread it around. there is NO REASON to end up like me if you have the information that I've compiled there.

I didn't have it in time, but I also expect to get well and don't want my condition to take away from the information I've collected that has led to many people avoiding or minimizing drug use and feeling much better.

Gianna's blog is still a great resource and she's truly been a blessing, being able to dole out good advice with patience, compassion, and humor. The book list on her blog now is excellent.

Stalkers and haters seem to be the only kinds of people that psychiatry produces.

But, yah, I'll miss Gianna's blog and the ning group she created. Right now, the ning group has reformed as medfree.ning.com. Pretty much anyone's invited over.
