Abilify TV Ad All Over The Place

This isn't really news per se, but I've noticed a huge uptick in appearances of the Abilify for depression TV ads--the one where people go from being depressed to being at a party or taking out the mail (and who wouldn't want to be at a party on an antipsychotic?). I've caught it on everything from cable news to the History Channel, even during the middle of the day.

Have the rest of you seen this ad much?

ugh..Saw it during SNL and it was even on during "The Biggest Loser" (along with Cymbalta ads)

It's almost like false advertising or at least misleading; I mean they don't come out and say it's an antipsychotic. It's presented as "just another med to add on"
Well of course it's an add-on! Correct me if I'm wrong; but I don't think it's approved as a stand alone depression med, so it HAS to be an add-on.

I'd like to see a commercial that came out and said, "Hey, that SSRI not working out too well...why not try an antipsychotic?"
That probably wouldn't go over too well with the millions on SSRIs who are taking them for "feeling a bit down or stressed". People might think "they were crazy" if they had to take an AP; and I'm sure they wouldn't be telling their friends they were on them.

As the economy tanks, perhaps Big Pharma is one of the few industries that can afford ad time - along with lawyers and scammy junior colleges. No more auto ads.

I do like how these ads equate wearing sweatpants with severe mental illness, oh wait maybe I don't;), and who wouldn't want to risk tardive dsykenisia and violent psychotic rages to be a little more chipper when opening the mailbox. Also don't these drugs all come with a yoga mat, cocktail party friends and a golden retriever?

I don't have TV but I will be unsubscribing from Oprah magazine for all her "I'm Taking an Anti-Depressant, but I think I May Need More Help" Abilify ads. Why does Abilify advertise so much? Seroquel doesn't... Geodon doesn't. Abilify is freakin' everywhere.

abilify has the approval kimbriel...the others are only working on it...

Yes, I have seen the Abilify ads all over the place. It is being advertised as an "add-on" for antidepressants.

Here is a news article from today about antidepressants and Abilify.

http://www.ssristories.com/show.php?item=3410

Headlines read: "Items seized at crime scene include firearm, antidepressants."
Last paragraph reads: "Emerson declined to comment about a list that detailed items seized from the crime scene by sheriff's investigators. A court document listed those items as a firearm, two expended shell casings, a binder with diary writings, a bottle of Abilify, a prescription medication used to treat depression, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder; four other bottles of prescription medication and emergency room discharge paperwork."

SSRI Stories note: Abilify is being widely advertised as an "add-on" to an antidepressant to help alleviate symptoms of depression.

Down here medicaments ads are not allowed. It is spooky that after the toothpaste add the Abilify starts.
But whenever I go to a pharmacy there's at least a box o Klonopin being sold.
Everybody knows someone who is taking or took Klonopin.
Effexor sells a lot.
I always ask pharmacists around the city about how is the selling of these drugs going.

I've been seeing the Abilify ad more often lately as well. Even though I am watching less TV since it is all re-runs.

I try to avoid TV these days, so I can't say I've seen the ads there (let alone seen an upsurge). HOWEVER, I've noticed a huge upsurge of Abilify advertising on the sides of (mostly defunct) pay phones across Delaware and southeastern PA. Of all places. Payphones.
