The Holiday, My Back, And Moving Right Along

Today is MLK, Jr. Day and I really have no idea how it affects readership, since some people have it off and some people don't. I'll likely just plod along with posts as the mood strikes me during the day. All of that is of course dependent on what my back allows. The beast seems to be better, but it's not fully-recovered yet so I'm having to be very careful about how much time I spend in front of the computer. It's sitting in front of the computer for long periods of time that really causes me problems and even short periods can be tricky still, so I'm forcing myself to be off the computer more than I'd care for. I hope things are vastly improved by the weekend.

In other news, I was informed by my evil property manager on Friday that my apartment building will ban smoking of any kind as of March 1. So I will be moving, to where I know not, when I know not, how I know not. With luck, I hope I can get through whatever move I have to do without too much disruption to the site (or to my back). It's sad to me personally, but the hate for smokers has become so huge in Seattle (and elsewhere in America) that we are now being booted from our housing. That sounds perfectly fair to me!

For those of you who wonder why I don't just go outside, the answer is that the same candy-assed yuppies who moved into my building recently and began to complain about me (and some others) will complain just as much if I smoke outside. Trust me. That's how hot the hatred is for smokers. I cannot wait until the Nanny Statists turn their pharma-funded weaponry to more aggressive assaults on food, alcohol and guns, then everyone else will know why I am feeling a bit put out these days.

Anyway, tomorrow is, of course, a special day in America and I haven't quite figured out yet whether I should post anything or just assume that everyone's attention is going to be somewhere else. Let me know what you think in comments.

Where's the new prez going to smoke?

I'm sorry to hear you have to move due to the smoking ban in your building. This is as bad as a conversion of apartment to condo and forcing ppl to buy the place or move.(that happened to me once with a house rental)

Do you know how many other ppl in your building it affects?

Not fair at all, Philip. And intrusive. Is it legal? Yuck on all landlord weasels too, BTW.

I suggest you take tomorrow off. I can almost guarantee readership will drop because "history" is taking place tomorrow. That and it would be a nice excuse to give your back an additional day of rest.

"Is it legal?"
I would also want to know.

Not so long ago, I went to Holland. My step-grandparents (Yep, long story, but we should be related) moved there from Britain, as they have legal euthanasia. For humans.

They moved in to Amstelveen and were visited by the local G.P., to set up his house calls and some chappie from the government, to tell them about their pension!!!

Anyway, I had about six months of sobriety under my belt. I went there on a budget that would make a monk cringe and I was fighting a depression.

What amazed me when I arrived in the airport, were several things. But primarily, that people were smoking like Victorian chimneys. There were no "Piss off smokers" signs. No "designated" crap.

As I wandered around over the ensuing days, oh, I'd left the airport, I saw further strange things. In cafes, people would eat right next to people smoking like the last steam train out of Hell.

I'm sure that this whole lax attitude is Wrong and Dangerous. Heck, drugs are legal there. Crime is at a loss if the drug profits don't exist.

Don't listen to what I'm saying though. I quit smoking recently, so my mind is a complete wreck. That's this week's excuse, anyway.

I'm in the midst of quitting the cigs myself. I'm using an electronic cigarette to accomplish this. You should spend a little time with google and check the e-cig out. It could solve your problem(s).

Those jerks in your building ought to be punched in their nosy tits. Who do they think they are passing judgement on anyone else's habits? Shrieking biddies drive me crazy. Just spent the holiday weekend in South Beach and it was wonderful to be able to sit down for a meal and have my cigarette (although most of the hotels are non-smoking, which seems bizarre). And the cigar girls sell cigarettes, so you needn't even find a store to buy a pack, they come right to you at your table!

I agree, when the tax on french fries or chocolate bars is even half of what it is on cigarettes, people will be flipping their lids.
