My Back Is Mostly Back

Although I'm still in a decent amount of pain, my back is at least functional and improving, so I should be back to something approaching normal today. The tricky part is I do best when I'm not sitting in a chair, so that ought to make things challenging.

BTW, thanks to all of you who wrote and commented on my situation. I can assure you that I was in very bad shape for a couple of days, wat beyond what a heating pad could address.

Try working at a standing desk. Takes time to get used to it, but it works for me.

Philip,
I was pretty sure you were living in Ouchville because of the uncharacteristic silence emanating from the Seattle area.

What is it with backs these days??? One of my good friends here in NH has been suffering. I was just over at Stephany's mental health and baking blog and her back's hurting. I had to shovel yesterday and seem to have joined the ranks of People in Need of Chiropractics. Go figure. Let's hope we all get better soon.

Sherry maybe it's the rain and moss here, why they call natives "mossbacks" haha.

I sympathize Philip. I had a slipped disk once and that pain was agony. Physical therapy exercises are what helped more than pain killers. Lay on your stomach as much as possible, it relieves pressure off the spine.

Mossbacks. That's good. I feel like a snowback at the moment. I actually enjoy shovelling snow (go figure) so I'm bummed that it now hurts my back. I wrecked my back digging potatoes on a farm two years ago. Happily, I have a terrific chiropractor. I'm waiting for her office to open tomorrow. I'll be on her doorstep.

I used to work in rehab. Bad backs, herniated discs, etc. were our bread and butter. Medication never takes the pain away, at best it takes the edge off. It also introduces addiction problems too often, IMO. But when you're desperate... A lot of my clients drank, partly to self medicate and partly because of the loss of the ability to work. It was as if they'd stepped through the looking glass. Our job was to try and lasso them and gently pull them back out. Sometimes we succeeded.

Hope all ye mossbacks feel better soon.
