Senators Investigating J&J For Ties To Psychiatrists

In the ongoing saga of members of Congress looking into pharma payouts to various researchers, Sens. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) and Herb Kohl (D-Wisc.) have asked J&J to turn over details of its payouts to physicians in regards to its antipsychotic Risperdal. I'm sure the senators will find some tasty stuff because the drug has been used and allegedly promoted off-label for a host of indications that have nothing to do with schizophrenia and mania--namely, ADHD and dementia.

It occurs to me that, with a new administration coming in and Congress being more Democrat than before, it is high time for formal Congressional hearings on how Big Pharma has corrupted academia and screwed up patients with its off-label marketing schemes.

Oh yeah, I took that one. For PTSD.

Thank god I was never a compliant patient. I never lasted terribly long on most meds, especially those atypicals. I had one doc who just loooooved them. He got caught up in that fake "research" Neurontin thing, put me on that for a while.

None of that crap does a thing for PTSD. Thyroxine, on the other hand does wonders if you happen to have hypothyroidism for 30 undiagnosed years...

Dear Philip:

I believe this is wishful and fantastical thinking, considering the Dem's have had control of both houses for years now, and have done nothing but sit on their arses with Big Pharma. I would like to know what makes anyone think government is about to get a conscious, and start biting on the hands that feed them fist after fist full of dollars to get elected in the first place.

Yours Truly,
Stan
