You Don't Have To Take Risperdal In The Butt Anymore!

That's right folks. The FDA just approved a new injection site for Risperdal CONSTA--in the biceps instead of the previously-approved gluteus.

There's progress.

And Seroquel XL--the newish extended release version--was just approved by the FDA for bipolar depression and acute mania. I wonder if a special marketing campaign will erupt.

Still waiting to hear if old Susie Q has been approved for one of three depression indications or anxiety. I'd expect we'll know soon.

This is news? I'm allegedly bipolar and they had me on extended release Seroquel for months. I guess that was off-label use? Useless drug, anyway. The only good the major tranquilizers (euphemistically called antipsychotics by the industry) do is knocking you out when you need it. The "extended release" format completely defeats that purpose. Also, the less you take the more effective it is. I was forced to take 600 - 800 of regular Seroquel and eventually I couldn't even feel it. Now, 100 mg is a powerful sleeping aid.

I can't hardly wait for the patch!

Seroquel XR was approved the day AstraZeneca wanted it to be, who needs the FDA it's in the pipeline, I hope ppl don't forget how to train with toastmasters to give speeches for anxiety.

Oh what more is there to life if we have to do is just give our right arm for an antipsychotic!?

I love the new seroquel XR no restless leg which I have had since I was a kid and Dr.s had never heard of it, and thought I was being indulgent, regular seroquel made it worse.
I add l-Glutamine to help me sleep.
I am a much nicer person now, i get to have a life.

Other drugs I tried did not work for me.

Some gave me bad side effects.

Despite this I do not think they are conspiricies against me by the drug companies, These drugs work for many people, why would I want to take that away from them just because they did not work for me?

I am always dismayed by this attitude. Companies want to sell things but you do not have to buy.
They might be able to sell dog shit cigarettes once but people are not going to buy them a second time.

With the cost of these drugs I do not think people are just going to take them for no reason, especially as they do have effects.

I am especially saddened by people who need help, but do not think so, or don't want to face it. The one rules of psychiatry is that if the person does not think there is anything wrong, or as is often the case, if they think it is the world not them that is wrong, there is nothing you can do for them.
I was lucky even as a kid I knew that if there was a conflict between me and reality, right or wrong reality wins. It was up to me to change.
Like if someone has a miss-impression about you, you have to change that with your behaviour not telling them they are wrong.
Talking to some friends about this we realised we had one great advantage by being white males, if something was wrong it was our fault, we could not blame others. It made it easier for us to take personal responsibility.

It would come as shocking news to most psychiatrists and their apologists that "if the person does not think there is anything wrong [with them] there is nothing you can do for them." In fact, one of the central precepts of bio-psych is that if a person disagrees with the psychiatrists' claims about them, ipso facto that is evidence of 'illness.'

My own experience is of being involuntarily 'treated' by psychiatrists who twisted my skepticism about the scientific basis for their claims into 'proof' that I '"lack insight" into just how 'sick' I am. "Lacking insight" became their biggest cudgel for forcing me to take their drugs.

In light of this, and the fact that the market for long-acting injectable neuroleptics is mostly people who may be unwilling to voluntarily take the pill form everyday, I am more than dismayed by the poster da6's incredible ignorance in asserting that the drug companies "want to sell you things but you do not have to buy."

Hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people, have been forced to take psych drugs against their wills, and often over their most strenuous objections.
