October 31, 2008Too Pooped To PostI'm preparing to go out of town for the weekend later this morning, so I'm going to hold off posting until Monday. It's also pretty much the second anniversary of the day I walked out of my old job and the realization is hitting me rather hard. I had the best job in my life and lost it because I had ethics and standards. Since then, I've watched as thousands and thousands of journalists have been pushed out of their jobs due to stone cold economics and the Internet--and that means there are no jobs for me or anyone--and that's hitting me over the head as well. Various media companies have announced about 4,000 layoffs and buyouts in the last week alone. And there's more to come. I'm off to see my parents for the weekend and sit in the sun in Arizona. It's their 50th wedding anniversary. Comment approval will be sporadic most of the day. Meanwhile, a new study is out asserting that a combination of Zoloft and CBT is good for youths with anxiety disorders. The New York Times has written about it here. Apparently, some people think it's an important study. I'll offer my two cents on Monday. Have a nice weekend. Posted by Philip Dawdy at October 31, 2008 12:01 AM

The Zoloft vs. CBT trial was done by a researcher I interviewed while it was in progress; due to my daughter having adverse side effects on Zoloft at age 13. That person assured me their goal was to make sure no child went through what my daughter did again. Posted by: Stephany at October 31, 2008 12:18 AMHappy Golden Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Dawdy! Have a great mini vacation Philip, pack your sun screen!
You will never get over the hurt of being penalized for "doing the right thing." It's hard to get over, I am still working on it myself. Enjoy AZ!!!! In reading some posts yesterday in the New York Times regarding the inequality of the cost insurance between men and women, many readers felt that because men's car insurance is higher, women shouldn't complain about their health insurance being higher. When we live in a society that values car insurances rates over a humans health, we can't expect much more from our employers. As a side note, I am not sure if anyone else has experienced this, but my co-pay for my shrink just went up after the Feds passed their parity plan. Anyone else had this experience? Posted by: Angie at October 31, 2008 06:42 AMPhilip your integrity (journalistic and personal)counts more in this world than a paycheck. You did the right thing, then and continue on. Enjoy the sunshine and your parents. Angie, my pdoc doesn't take insurance at all! it's pay up front only...but he has given me a sliding scale (sometimes I pay nothing) due to my financial 'disaster'. I couldn't afford to go if he didn't graciously help me that way. I hope everyone has a good weekend. Posted by: Stephany at October 31, 2008 10:46 AMJust wanted to say hello and let you know how informative your blog is. I have learned a great deal from it. Thanks for having ethics and standards, so many don't. It gives me hope for humanity. Posted by: Melissa at November 3, 2008 04:53 PMPost a comment
