5 Percent Of American Kids Taking Psych Meds

New data out from the CDC shows that 5.1 percent of American kids are now taking medications for various mental health diagnoses. Approximately twice as many boys as girls are on meds (6.6 percent versus 3.4 percent). Most of the diagnoses are for ADHD. It's not clear to me from the CDC's report how much of a change this was from previous years.

This is so alarming! 5.1% of children? I feel there is a new generation that is going to be completely lost to ill-effects of these harsh mind-altering chemicals, and I cannot imagine in another few years what the stats will be now that antipsychotics are being dosed out to kids at age 10 thanks to the FDA!

Anyone reading this with children should watch the PBS program (free online) "The Medicated Child".

I think this is horrible. But I don't blame the FDA, I blame the parents. They have to give their PERMISSION for a child to be on psychotropics. They allow kids to sit in front of TVs and play video games all day instead of going outside and exercising - run off that energy. And when the child is still energetic, they drug them to keep them still and quiet so they can go on their merry way competing with the Jonees for the biggest house and the biggest car. Yes, the FDA approves the drug, but the doctor prescribes it and the PARENT ALLOWS it. They (these PARENTS ~sarcasm~) are creating a society of kids who think coping means taking drugs.
