July 15, 2008Senate Going After Controversial Brown Univ. PsychiatristPharmalot is reporting that Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa), who's been going whole hog on connections between Big Pharma and researchers and their conflicts, is now looking into Brown University's Martin Keller. Among other things, Keller is infamous for Paxil Study 329 which found no benefit to using the anti-depressant in children yet was cooked by Keller and others into a research paper that claimed Paxil was good for kids. Keller strikes me as the most nefarious of them all, although it's pretty much a draw between him and Biederman with Schatzberg coming in a very close second. If only Brown, Harvard and Stanford would actually sanction these guys, or better yet dismiss them, then we might start to see some changes in the way "research" is carried out. Posted by: Sara at July 16, 2008 01:45 PMKeller, Biederman, et al: yes it is time for the truth. More later Posted by: Stephany at July 16, 2008 09:36 PMPshrinks get caught fudging research for money, feel no responsibility for all of the lives they have done irreparable harm to, and really seem to think that it's not them that's the problem, that they're not responsible for their actions but instead the demon is unfair, complex accounting laws. These guys should face criminal prosecution. It's pretty clear Keller cooked the books. As for Biederman, his studies are described as "small and funded by pharmaceutical companies." I wonder if that means they produced no clinically significant results but he reported they did anyway, maybe not, but I wonder. Posted by: Sally at July 17, 2008 03:01 AMPost a comment
