In Advance Of The 4th...
The holiday is approaching, Seattle seems to have emptied out and I am burned out. In honor of all that I am going to take today and tomorrow off with perhaps a post or two if anything newsy pops. Comment approval will be intermittent. I hope you all have a nice holiday.
Meanwhile, there is a thoroughly disgusting story out of New York, where a woman died in a psych ER and basically was left on the floor for hours. It's a sickening story.

I read that story. Shades of Kitty Genovese--no one wants to "get involved". Even when it's their job, it seems.

i'd light a sparkler in honor of your hard work here, but it's illegal where i live and heaven forbid i get arrested for anything less than protesting for civil liberties.

I am presently incarcerated under the Mental Health Act due to my allegedly making a violent threat to my husband. The offensive comment was made on the phone to a friend and overheard (as I planned it) by my husband.
My friend confirms that it was merely a conditional threat, along the lines of "If that bastard ... then I will stab him ...." But my word against my husband's word is of no value because I am bipolar and/or schizoaffective.
Does this seem fair? I can document (through my friend) that there was no such threat. Yet here I am, drugged to the eyeballs. What's it going to take to fix this system, people?
