When Do You Read?

Hi all. The drop off in reader traffic that comes each summer is just beginning this week, and I wanted to ask you all a question so I can figure out how to schedule my posts during the summer. At this point, I'll largely be writing for regular readers, as looky-loo traffic drops in the summer, so what time of day do you read this site or check your feeds or bookmarks for updates? Let me know in comments please. For the sake of consistency either let me know what time zone you are in, or convert your local time to PDT.

And, thanks to all of you for the many comments on this site. Yesterday, I hit 10,000 comments on this site. That feels like a milestone.

I like to read my RSS feeds between 3 and 9pm EDT.

I usually read via Google Reader in early morning and again in late afternoon.

Congratulations on the 10K comments!

Between 9 am and 3 pm pac time every other day or so.

Hey Philip...
I read you within an hour of waking up most days, unless I'm writing then it might be 2 or 3 hours...

In any case that means sometime between 5 am and 8 am your time.

Then if I'm home I tend to check throughout the day for updates.

As far as I'm concerned you can post anytime you want. I'll catch it...I've got live feeds that are painless to check.

I'm an international reader, so our time zones will always be out of sync. But that's one of the great things about spaces like this - it's accessible round the clock. So, whenever you get to posting is fine by me. If you need to moderate comments, though, I guess you want to have the bulk of them come in at reasonable hours for you.

6 am - 20 pm - your time

Several times a day.

Congratulations!

I usually check it out first thing in the morning with my coffee and that's usually when I write my comments too but I'm back during the day too and I agree with Gianna -- you should do what works best for you and if you only approve comments once or twice a day that's fine too. While I certainly hope the blog continues to grow and becomes even better known, I also hope you get some other things going too that you find rewarding so don't be bashful about cutting back here at the blog. We will all survive, get acclimated to it, and still keep coming back too. I've seen a few new names in the comment section so I think you're still getting new regulars.

I check my feed in the morning, as well as at night, since I don't subscribe to an unreasonable amount of sites. I sometimes read your post in my feed, and sometime I click over to the site, especially for the discussion in comments.

Thanks for all the work you do.

Crikey that's a lot of comments.

I read whenever the baby let's me! LOL

I too usually check the site with my coffee, between 5-6 am EST during the week.

congrats on your milestone :) glad we are an active bunch of readers too

Posted by: adam korvin at June 21, 2008 10:04 AM

interesting question to return to. I usually catch your site twice a day, in the later AM around 11-12N and again around 9-11PM (East times). Take some time off, though. Replenish the soul, thats what I did.

Posted by: therapyfirst at June 21, 2008 03:50 PM

Because of my OCD, my time for using the computer is limited, but lately, it's anytime between midnight and noon, EST.

Posted by: Jen at June 21, 2008 11:39 PM

Mostly early morning GMT and later for posts due to the time zone difference. Disparate times for references and links.
Keep up the good work.

Stuart Jones. Wales.

Probably 10am Seattle time I would say.

10 thousand is like a stadium, great.

I usually read you first thing in the morning. Which would be 5 a.m. PST time. Then I check to see the comments in the afternoon, but whatever you do we can make adjustments.

Hi Philip,

I'm in NJ and read daily during work hours for the most part. Thank you for all you do.

Cheers,
Brian

Doesn't matter to me. I catch you whenever I can, don't mind getting caught up. I'm more concerned you do what works nicely for you. Why? Because I'm totally self serving and I know you'll continue doing the blog longer if it works for YOU.

Thanks for doing it at all. I don't expect hot and cold running Philip. Really. Enjoy those Seattle summer evenings.
