June 20, 2008When Do You Read?Hi all. The drop off in reader traffic that comes each summer is just beginning this week, and I wanted to ask you all a question so I can figure out how to schedule my posts during the summer. At this point, I'll largely be writing for regular readers, as looky-loo traffic drops in the summer, so what time of day do you read this site or check your feeds or bookmarks for updates? Let me know in comments please. For the sake of consistency either let me know what time zone you are in, or convert your local time to PDT. And, thanks to all of you for the many comments on this site. Yesterday, I hit 10,000 comments on this site. That feels like a milestone. Posted by Philip Dawdy at June 20, 2008 02:35 PM

I like to read my RSS feeds between 3 and 9pm EDT. Posted by: Ben_Wraith at June 20, 2008 02:40 PMI usually read via Google Reader in early morning and again in late afternoon. Posted by: Cheryl Fuller at June 20, 2008 02:53 PMBetween 9 am and 3 pm pac time every other day or so. Posted by: Jane at June 20, 2008 03:05 PMHey Philip... In any case that means sometime between 5 am and 8 am your time. Then if I'm home I tend to check throughout the day for updates. As far as I'm concerned you can post anytime you want. I'll catch it...I've got live feeds that are painless to check. Posted by: Gianna at June 20, 2008 03:13 PMI'm an international reader, so our time zones will always be out of sync. But that's one of the great things about spaces like this - it's accessible round the clock. So, whenever you get to posting is fine by me. If you need to moderate comments, though, I guess you want to have the bulk of them come in at reasonable hours for you. Posted by: Robyn Clothier at June 20, 2008 04:21 PM6 am - 20 pm - your time Several times a day. Congratulations! Posted by: Ana at June 20, 2008 05:22 PMI usually check it out first thing in the morning with my coffee and that's usually when I write my comments too but I'm back during the day too and I agree with Gianna -- you should do what works best for you and if you only approve comments once or twice a day that's fine too. While I certainly hope the blog continues to grow and becomes even better known, I also hope you get some other things going too that you find rewarding so don't be bashful about cutting back here at the blog. We will all survive, get acclimated to it, and still keep coming back too. I've seen a few new names in the comment section so I think you're still getting new regulars. Posted by: Sara at June 20, 2008 05:33 PMI check my feed in the morning, as well as at night, since I don't subscribe to an unreasonable amount of sites. I sometimes read your post in my feed, and sometime I click over to the site, especially for the discussion in comments. Thanks for all the work you do. Posted by: maria at June 20, 2008 07:22 PMCrikey that's a lot of comments. I read whenever the baby let's me! LOL Posted by: mercurial scribe at June 20, 2008 10:40 PMUsually around 10p.m PDT. Congrats on your comment milestone. HUGE! Posted by: laura at June 20, 2008 11:28 PMI too usually check the site with my coffee, between 5-6 am EST during the week. Posted by: Sally at June 21, 2008 03:57 AMRandom. CST. Posted by: Lisa at June 21, 2008 07:29 AMEDT: During the week, after five; during the weekend, whenever I feel like sitting down at the computer. Posted by: catherine at June 21, 2008 09:29 AMhi. i always read at 3pm EST and 8pm EST interesting question to return to. I usually catch your site twice a day, in the later AM around 11-12N and again around 9-11PM (East times). Take some time off, though. Replenish the soul, thats what I did. Posted by: therapyfirst at June 21, 2008 03:50 PMBecause of my OCD, my time for using the computer is limited, but lately, it's anytime between midnight and noon, EST. Posted by: Jen at June 21, 2008 11:39 PMMostly early morning GMT and later for posts due to the time zone difference. Disparate times for references and links. Congratulations on the 10K! Wish it were money. Posted by: Torrey is odious at June 22, 2008 01:49 AMAnytime during (my) day Uk resident, GMT Posted by: E at June 22, 2008 06:51 AMProbably 10am Seattle time I would say. 10 thousand is like a stadium, great. Posted by: Poe at June 22, 2008 10:54 AMI usually read you first thing in the morning. Which would be 5 a.m. PST time. Then I check to see the comments in the afternoon, but whatever you do we can make adjustments. Posted by: Naturalgal at June 22, 2008 02:04 PMHi Philip, I'm in NJ and read daily during work hours for the most part. Thank you for all you do.
Doesn't matter to me. I catch you whenever I can, don't mind getting caught up. I'm more concerned you do what works nicely for you. Why? Because I'm totally self serving and I know you'll continue doing the blog longer if it works for YOU. Thanks for doing it at all. I don't expect hot and cold running Philip. Really. Enjoy those Seattle summer evenings. Posted by: Sherry at June 23, 2008 09:19 AMPost a comment
