June 11, 2008Spring Fundraiser--Final DayAs of last night, the spring fundraiser stands at $2,350 and I thank the 59 readers who have donated, or in a few cases pledged, to date. That leaves the fundraiser $150 short of its $2,500 goal by the end of today. I'd appreciate it if any of you who haven't contributed so far would make a contribution today so that this fundraiser can end successfully--not that it's not a success already--and I'll go back to charging forward on the issues we all care about. As usual, the PayPal button is on the right. If you prefer snail mail, send me an email and I'll shoot you a mailing address. Thanks to all of you who support my work here. It is all very humbling. You should set this up as a tax exempt PAC or something. What happens with regard to tax on this blog thing? Do you have to tell the IRS? Posted by: Poe at June 10, 2008 11:35 PMpoe, what you are talking about would probably fall under non profit 501c3 rules in the US. that would cost a minimum of 1000 dollars just for the paperwork and i'd have to report to a board of directors and so on. for me as a journalist that's all a bit much to contend with, but maybe someday. in the meantime, i take my write offs, pay my taxes to the IRS and subsidize my work here with other outside work such as the article i am literally writing at this moment (non mental health related, oddly enough). Posted by: Philip Dawdy at June 10, 2008 11:40 PMOk cool. I see. Sorry I can't give you any of my money. I'm a poor student... but maybe one daay. I don't even have a credit card, probably wouldn't qualify.././../. 'Very impressive to see you hit your target though. That is damn cool. I still say, as a joke mainly, that you could move to dominica and blog from there and have footmen for not much cassssh. Maybe their bandwidth sucks. You DO stay up late don't you? I know what time it is in seattle. It's actually Spring for about 10 more days, lots of time for a Spring fundraiser for readers to keep donating!! 59 readers is not very many considering the enormity of this site! I'm sure their are more out there with a spare tank of gas to donate! or latte', etc. Posted by: Stephany at June 11, 2008 09:25 AM2 comments: first, let's be honest, one of the dark sides to the internet is people think that things can be had for free and little effort. I believe what this gentleman is asking for is fair and reasonable, and people who can benefit from this blog effort can cough up a little bit of dough. Think about it, readers. if each of you could donate 5 dollars and there are at least 100 regular readers, that's 5Gs for FS. Hopefully he can document this is a fair need, but I see it as such if done on a 3-4X a year basis, as he posts at least daily much of the time. Second, stephany asked me somewhere either here or at Dr C's site recently about me getting the letter to the editor from April 07 Journal of psychiatry (the APA Journal)regarding Seroquel needing to be a controlled substance designation. I can't get it as I am not a member and it requires a membership, if I am correct. FS, maybe you have contacts? I've been burned too, folks, so don't assume I am the burner!
