May 28, 2008Pharma Companies May Get Patient Records In CaliforniaThis lovely bit of news from my native land: "Pharmacies in California would be allowed to sell confidential patient prescription information to third-party marketing firms working for drug companies under a bill expected to be voted on Thursday by the state Senate. Is there simply no quit in the sales tactics of the pharma companies? I doubt that too many adults need to be sent reminders to take their meds each day. It's time for "America's pharmaceutical research companies," as Montel Williams puts it, to get the hell out of peoples' private lives. They already know what our docs prescribe anyway. Enough is enough. We ban drug dealers and users to keep them away from schools. Why would we let these drug pushers into our homes and medical records? Posted by Philip Dawdy at May 28, 2008 04:49 PM

that is F***ed up Posted by: jenna at May 28, 2008 05:29 PMThis is ridiculous, but it's the way of the world now, we have an industry that looks like this: Today, I was sitting in a waiting area of several PCP offices, labs etc. I think I see a famous Seattle Seahawk accompanied by a gorgeous Sea Gal. Sea Gal carried a power shopping bag that had "Lunesta" on one side, and "Lexapro" on the other. Guy was told to come back later. Gal says, "Let's just go over to the next office." Maybe next time, I will get their autographs. Posted by: Stephany at May 28, 2008 07:20 PMI can't believe that this could pass... I really hope it doesn't and wrote my representatives to vote no on it. Thank you for bringing this to our attention! Posted by: mercurial scribe at May 28, 2008 10:37 PMI live in California and I listen to my local talk stations and I have not heard one word boo about this piece of legislation, thank you for making me aware of this. Man I hate mainstream news, even on the local level it is all titts and ass and who's a scandal and BS BS BS... and never do we ever hear about the mahor issues that impact our individual lives and aren't just tasty stories and political BS.
Well anyways, thanks for alerting myself and other Californians of this possibility because if it weren't for you I woudl have absolutely no clue. I guess I better prepare myself for the onslaught of junk mail DTC BS about how I should talk to my doctor about Abilify and Zyprexa and blah blah blah f-ing crap waste of paper. ... maybe though I'll luck out and some dipsh*t pharmacuetical company will pull a dipsh*t move and send me samples of some psyche med in the mail that I can then progress to take -cause that's why they snet them to me right?-, and then go off my rocker, get put in the psych hiospital and then sue the living dogsh*t out of that company along with all the other "crazies" that got the sample... and then maybe I'll have enough money to pay to go somewhere where I can actually get detoxed off of the psyche meds I am currently on and having a hard time quitting without being immediately forced to get on another freaking cocktail of over rated, legalized psychoactive substances aka DRUGS. ha! That woudl be great, and I seriously think the drug comps are greedy and stupid enough to send out samples of Rx drugs without and rx... yeah a free three week sample of seroquel in the mail, get em hooked without even having to go thru the process of converting a doctor - AWSOME! - I just can't wait. Posted by: katielou82 at May 30, 2008 12:08 PMThis is bad, but what most people don't realize is that HIPPA (Health Insurance Privacy and Portability Act, I think) is a federal law that means that all of your health information is portable so all health care providers always have access to it. But private so that you often don't have access to your own health record, and with psych records there's no law saying you have to have access to your own records. And of course your health care providers and insurers can share this information with the other subsidiaries of their insurance companies, like life, home owners and auto. If you pay for a psych drug with insurance or if one' has been prescribed for you, there's no hiding it. Unfair, but true. Post a comment
