12 Year Old Arrested For Dealing Chantix, Anti-Anxiety Med

Read it and gasp. From upstate New York:

"Chittenango Middle School arrested for selling prescription drugs to students. On May 8th, school officials found pills, including Chantix and anti-anxiety medicine, in the possession of some students who were selling and giving out pills to other students.

"State Police arrested a 12 year-old juvenile Sullivan for 3 counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in or near school grounds, a Class B Felony and 3 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child , a Class A Misdemeanor.

"He has been released into the custody of his parents and to appear Madison County Family Court.

"State Police say more arrests could be coming.

Where the hell did a 12-year-old get his or her hands on Chantix and Xanax or Ativan? Had to be the parents. People have clearly got to start locking up the meds. And why the hell would kids so young be handing psych meds around in the school yard? Have they heard they can get high?

Whatever happened to the days when the bad kids stuck with cigarettes and weed?

Whats also of interest is the fact that the Chanix isn't warranted for people with psych problems - So what brillant doctor presrcibed the two drugs to begin with?

There are commercials on television....public service announcements that show high school kids dealing drugs....the twist is that they are prescription drugs that they got out of the parent's medicine cabinet.

Don't be so shocked about the Xanax or Ativan, like Adderall and Ritalin these things are rx'd TO 12 yr olds, and I have a friend who had 2 sons expelled the same month for selling their stimulants and one was in junior high! (years ago). The Chantix is getting quite a headliner these days! We've had a culture shift.

"WARNINGS

Neuropsychiatric Symptoms

Serious neuropsychiatric symptoms have occurred in patients being treated with CHANTIX. Some cases may have been complicated by the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal in patients who stopped smoking; however, some of these symptoms have occurred in patients who continued to smoke. All patients being treated with CHANTIX should be observed for neuropsychiatric symptoms including changes in behavior, agitation, depressed mood, suicidal ideation and suicidal behavior. These symptoms, as well as worsening of pre-existing psychiatric illness, have been reported in patients attempting to quit smoking while taking CHANTIX in the post- marketing experience. Patients with serious psychiatric illness such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depressive disorder did not participate in the pre-marketing studies of CHANTIX and the safety and efficacy of CHANTIX in such patients has not been established. Patients attempting to quit smoking with CHANTIX and their families and caregivers should be alerted about the need to monitor for these symptoms and to report such symptoms immediately to the patient's healthcare provider."

I would like to make a statement about Chantix here as I dont know of a better place to put it. I have been on it for one week and found the box almost impossible to get into then the med card springs repeatedly back in. When you destroy the box thinking you will try the med it has a clear plastic over it so deep scissors won't get it open so I tried the back and the cardboard was so thick it was difficult cutting the pill out with a steak knife. I began to wonder if someone wants to sell the pill and does not care if it gets taken or not. Does that mean the maker feels it would be better not to take it? I had to register 4 times with their help coach called "get (it?) quick" just to try to reach the supposed 24 hour cessation coach and then got screamed at by the coach repeatedly and she asked me to give HER ideas how I might stop smoking. HANG ON, THIS WILL MAKE SENSE IN A MOMENT. So I asked for the complaint # and was given 1-800-707-8990-the recording answered "helpful answers" and then asked me if I was a user ordering to press 1 and if a doctor to press 2. Selling this? So I called back the live operator and was told to call 1-800-438-1985. It was 11 p.m. and they answered "Thank you for calling Pfiser medical information". That is what I was also told by the live operator I could type in online with a www infront of it to online complain. I next tried that-the internet said there is no such domain. And the phone? Medical information said they were closed so I decided to try the supposed 24 hour coach line at 1-877-coach 09 support. Low and behold I got a recorded reply again. It told me it was after hours and to call back during working hours tomorrow! If Pfiser does not care if you can't get in their boxes and does not want to talk to you or give you the 24 hour support they promise, then what would make you think they care about their meds or the people who take them?
I have heard some real horror stories about the effect of Chantix and read Chantixsucks reports online that would make your hair stand up and a couple of praises--so maybe the dosage is not even the same in all of the pills, I wonder--and there are children selling these kinds of things in school?! Parents, I am not sure now that any of us should be using Chantix, and I've seen the results of Ativan on others, TOO UNBELIEVABLE TO EVEN GO INTO HERE; but if you want to play with your life, SAFELY LOCK YOUR MEDS UP, unless you don't care what they will do to your little Johnny or Suesy. And if you don't, then at least consider the J & S's that belong to other parents and grandparents. Kids take things they see you take, and kids share things with other kids when you should most wish they didn't. Moreover, when we should question the drugmakers and the drugs for ourselves and our offspring, we don't seem to. What will it take to make a difference, what kind of tragedy-or are you like the drug company
indifferent until you get sued? What will it take to wake everyone up? I am done with Chantix and with Pfiser now. If they can't support their drug problem, I am sure there is a bigger problem and I don't want to be part of it.
