May 23, 200812 Year Old Arrested For Dealing Chantix, Anti-Anxiety MedRead it and gasp. From upstate New York: "Chittenango Middle School arrested for selling prescription drugs to students. On May 8th, school officials found pills, including Chantix and anti-anxiety medicine, in the possession of some students who were selling and giving out pills to other students. Where the hell did a 12-year-old get his or her hands on Chantix and Xanax or Ativan? Had to be the parents. People have clearly got to start locking up the meds. And why the hell would kids so young be handing psych meds around in the school yard? Have they heard they can get high? Whatever happened to the days when the bad kids stuck with cigarettes and weed? Posted by Philip Dawdy at May 23, 2008 12:27 AM

Whats also of interest is the fact that the Chanix isn't warranted for people with psych problems - So what brillant doctor presrcibed the two drugs to begin with? Posted by: Jane at May 23, 2008 07:03 AMThere are commercials on television....public service announcements that show high school kids dealing drugs....the twist is that they are prescription drugs that they got out of the parent's medicine cabinet. Posted by: Naturalgal at May 23, 2008 08:21 AMDon't be so shocked about the Xanax or Ativan, like Adderall and Ritalin these things are rx'd TO 12 yr olds, and I have a friend who had 2 sons expelled the same month for selling their stimulants and one was in junior high! (years ago). The Chantix is getting quite a headliner these days! We've had a culture shift. Posted by: Stephany at May 23, 2008 10:56 AM"WARNINGS Neuropsychiatric Symptoms Serious neuropsychiatric symptoms have occurred in patients being treated with CHANTIX. Some cases may have been complicated by the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal in patients who stopped smoking; however, some of these symptoms have occurred in patients who continued to smoke. All patients being treated with CHANTIX should be observed for neuropsychiatric symptoms including changes in behavior, agitation, depressed mood, suicidal ideation and suicidal behavior. These symptoms, as well as worsening of pre-existing psychiatric illness, have been reported in patients attempting to quit smoking while taking CHANTIX in the post- marketing experience. Patients with serious psychiatric illness such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depressive disorder did not participate in the pre-marketing studies of CHANTIX and the safety and efficacy of CHANTIX in such patients has not been established. Patients attempting to quit smoking with CHANTIX and their families and caregivers should be alerted about the need to monitor for these symptoms and to report such symptoms immediately to the patient's healthcare provider." Chantix(Verenicline)warnings-Rx list dot com. Looks like Chantix is sunk! I would like to make a statement about Chantix here as I dont know of a better place to put it. I have been on it for one week and found the box almost impossible to get into then the med card springs repeatedly back in. When you destroy the box thinking you will try the med it has a clear plastic over it so deep scissors won't get it open so I tried the back and the cardboard was so thick it was difficult cutting the pill out with a steak knife. I began to wonder if someone wants to sell the pill and does not care if it gets taken or not. Does that mean the maker feels it would be better not to take it? I had to register 4 times with their help coach called "get (it?) quick" just to try to reach the supposed 24 hour cessation coach and then got screamed at by the coach repeatedly and she asked me to give HER ideas how I might stop smoking. HANG ON, THIS WILL MAKE SENSE IN A MOMENT. So I asked for the complaint # and was given 1-800-707-8990-the recording answered "helpful answers" and then asked me if I was a user ordering to press 1 and if a doctor to press 2. Selling this? So I called back the live operator and was told to call 1-800-438-1985. It was 11 p.m. and they answered "Thank you for calling Pfiser medical information". That is what I was also told by the live operator I could type in online with a www infront of it to online complain. I next tried that-the internet said there is no such domain. And the phone? Medical information said they were closed so I decided to try the supposed 24 hour coach line at 1-877-coach 09 support. Low and behold I got a recorded reply again. It told me it was after hours and to call back during working hours tomorrow! If Pfiser does not care if you can't get in their boxes and does not want to talk to you or give you the 24 hour support they promise, then what would make you think they care about their meds or the people who take them? I just got the online message that my comment was approved and posted so I hit the button to return to the main screen and I do not see it posted with the other comments, where is it? Posted by: beverly peters at September 10, 2008 10:48 PMbeverly, what you got was screen that said comments are moderated and that your comment would be approved once reviewed. i've reviewed it. it's posted above. thanks for your comment. interesting experience you had there.
