The Zyprexa Chronicles: Opening Arguments In Alaska

I have little to offer today since I am far too tired from some outside work I've been doing to keep myself alive while I try to keep this site going to even think much less write.

The fundraiser brought in another $75 yesterday, but I fear it will fall short of its modest goal. If you want to do something about it, you know what to do. Otherwise, fine, whatever.

Oh, yes, opening arguments in the case of Alaska v. Eli Lilly were heard yesterday. Pretty much predictable blather from the state and Lilly so far. You can read a summary here. One thing is clear: the Zyprexa documents that are hosted on this site are at the heart of this case and of the evidence in the case. Knowing the documents as well as I do, I wish Eli Lilly all the luck in the world.

Oh, did I mention that this site is the only one in the US that houses the documents? Did I mention that I put them online last year at substantial legal risk to myself? Did I mention that Eli Lilly's legal team has read them and so have the legal staffs of several states AGs' office? I guess I just did.

I haven't had a job since October or I'd send you money, Philip. I sure do wish I could. I'd send a care package of flax seeds and yerba mate if I thought that'd help.

You're my hero.

I hear you, keep writing when I get some money I will remember you, don't lose heart this is what I have to tell myself everyday. Are you ok? You are filling a very valuable service when I can come to you and get comfort from your heart and your information.

A long time reader's opinion/letter on the fundraiser:

I hope readers understand those documents are the ones Lilly did NOT want the public to see, they are the VERY reason people died and were injured by Zyprexa because Lilly withheld TRUTH, and buried DATA that could have saved lives,[in my opinion] and the ONLY reason they are on this site at all is because they were leaked to the public.

These are in my opinion documents that link people to a major CRIME.

IF Lilly had been truthful the diabetes warning could have come out along with the medication from the beginning. If you haven't taken time to read the documents, then do it here. They are like watching a crime scene unfold before your eyes, and let me tell you, my daughter was placed on that drug at age 11 in 1999 just a few years after that drugs approval [not for KIDS] and she gained 100 lbs.!! Lilly knew that could happen, and knew diabetes could too. As reported here on this site in an interview, Ellen's son died from diabetes via taking Zyprexa.

I said it before in another comment, that if this site wasn't here for people to read it would be a shame, it's the only one with comprehensive coverage in length regarding ALL mental health issues and has been discussing the topics LONG before they were in mainstream snippets.

For new readers I recommend searching the site for "Zyprexa Chronicles".

This series should win a journalist award in my opinion and at the minimum should win a mental health advocate award.

I also wonder if new readers or regular readers know or remember Philip IS an award winning journalist, and you are lucky he is taking time to write here.

Have you read the "Articles by Dawdy" links on the left hand side bar? They weren't written for free, and they were in newspaper print. The story about the bipolar cop, Angela who lost her job due to the label of Bipolar-- won an award from Mental Health America.

I imagine if he cannot support himself with this blog , he, like everyone else who needs to pay rent and bills, might have to move on to find a paycheck.

Cutting back here would cut your information back. Snooze ya lose, and that goes for Lilly and company also.

I write a small nothing blog, but when I write anything about Lilly or Zyprexa they read my site too. That says a lot about why they are reading this one, think about what is written here.

Anti depressants in the news, school shootings, outlet for readers to vent viewpoints on SSRI's and violence, Cymbalta and Champix withdrawal information, and the Lamitcal withdrawal information article he wrote, that I linked to my blog gets several hits on a consistant basis, because it's one of the only sites people can find Lamictal withdrawal information.

The list goes on and on for people to keep this site here, or don't complain it's cut back to "media madness links" which is all most other sites ever do, and many link to this site for those.

This is all my opinion; because there was NO place I ever read, EVER that discussed the Childhood Bipolar diagnosis and how some kids had a bad thing happen to them for it, like my daughter. This is the only site that has questioned it for YEARS.I think Philip is the first person I've ever known to question the Childhood Bipolar dx and the medications used to treat it, besides myself, long before I found this blog, I've been a mother questioning these medications for a decade! [only now some are beginning to be approved by the FDA]

Hell, the PBS Frontline Medicated Child program was a drop in the bucket for information that we all didn't know already from this site.

Thanks for the writings and news here,

I couldn't have said it any better, Stephany. Thanks for vocalizing all the reasons we should be giving Philip LOTS of support.

If you Google theses competitor atypicals, you will find they do not have the bad PR of Zyprexa
Abilify
Seroquel
Clozaril
Risperdal

Even the first-generation antipsychotics,( 20 times cheaper) such as haloperidol (Haldol) or chlorpromazine (Thorazine) don't get the bad rap of Zyprexa

Amazing,it's like Zyprexa is cursed

Amazing

I'm currently unemployed or I'd help you out, buddy. Depending when my next paycheck comes in and you have your next fundraiser, I'll do my best to dig out those pennies for you.

By the way, I'm glad you're being modest about being the only blogger in the U.S. who hosts the Zyprexa docs. ;)

I'm gonna send you a donation thru paypal but I wanted to say that I really really REALLY hope that if you don't make the $2,000 by Friday that you would extend the fundraiser a few days in order to reach your goal and meet your needs, instead of deciding to stop writing as much here.

Your blog is very important to me as a patient, a consumer, a concerned citizen and a curious mind. This blog is my first stop ever day.
I think your blog and your work is very important to a lot of people and it is IMO THE BEST mental health focused news outlet ANYWHERE.

I know you may be feeling under-apreciated by the news world at large but that fact has nothing to do with your talent. You are a spectacular journalist, it's just that we unfortunately live in a world where actual investagative reporting on mental health issues is almost frowned upon thanks to the propaganda machines that most news outlets have become. You are one of the very few voices of truth in the sea of spin and hype that has become the false, yet widely accepted "reality" of mental health issues.
Hopefuly, eventually as all the many things you have "predicted" come to pass, your opinion and your talent will become more sought after and you will be able to make more than a meager living off of your tremendous talent.

It is too bad we live in a world where talent isn't always rewarded, and even worse that we live in a world where it seems that there are no other arenas where this rings more true than in the world of mental health and journalism. It certainly has shaped up to be a very damaging combination. That people can't reley on their doctors or scientists, their governments, nor even their well known and popularily branded sources of "newsworthy" information to give them the truth is a very sad state of affairs. But still we are very lucky because at least we have you and the other handful of bloggers and online journalists that are willing and able to give us a daily dose of truth.

What I really hope for for you and your career is that you get the opportunities to make yourself widly enough known that you can make a decent living, be offered more opportunities to reach an even wider audience and receive the accliam that you so much deserve. But until that happens these fundraisers will have to do and people who read this blog MUST be willing to show their appreciation by giving you the donations you need and not take you or granted.

I just hope that if you don't meet your goal by friday that you'll be willing to extend the fundraiser for a few extra days because it would seriously upset me if I could not dependably come here every morning and start my day the way I have been now for almost a year, with a few teaspoons of truth mixed in with my morning coffee.

Thank you Philip, from the bottom of my heart. There are sooooo many things I now know about all things mental ill and well that I would never have been able to learn or use as a jumping point for my own investigation if it weren't for you, your skills and dedication.

WELL, the first generation caused a brand new disease in TD. So you need to get googling and see that there's a whole lot of bad stuff out there,

and abilify will get put in its place, only after thousands are maimed does it come out

Well, the anon poster re: other antipsyhotics vs. Zyprexa can read this to start, just in case they need to get educated.

There are nicotine replacement therapies available in the market, namely, nicotine gums, lozenges, patches et al that can help you overcome nicotine addiction. You can try out these therapies according to the doctor’s suggestions but they fail to yield desired results, chantix is definitely there to help you quit smoking. For more information on chantix, visit http://www.chantixmagic.com/.
