FDA Investigating Suicide Link To Singular

Just out is news that the FDA will review reports of suicides and suicidal ideation connected with use of the allergy drug Singular. The drug is made by Merck.

"FDA said it asked the Whitehouse, N.J.-based company to dig deeper into its data on Singulair for evidence of possible links to suicide. The agency said it has not established a ''causal relationship'' between Merck's drug and suicidal behavior. An agency spokeswoman said the review was prompted by three to four suicide reports it received since last October."

I am glad to see that the FDA is finally--after decades of people like me complaining to them--taking the issue of medications and suicide induction seriously.

I agree-- Its about time they start thinking more about the human beings that take these drugs instead of how fat their wallet is growing.

PsychCenral Readers - has anyone come across a guide for talking someone down from a bridge, cliff, etc. Most police departments don't train the troops even though they respond and do the talking in most cases. Psych websites only talk about identifying those at risk. But what do you do and what do you say when someone is threatening to jump. Amazing lack of info on this topic yet it happens every day. Thnx

Some police departments require CIT training for officers, which can be a great tool for officers if they have not dealt with severe mental illness or a psychotic individual who might make sudden moves, etc. If you are looking for personal advice if in the situation of talking someone down, remain calm, and do not making sudden movement yourself.
