Anti-Depressant Poll Results

Yesterday I asked readers here and, separately, at Daily Kos if knowing what we now know about anti-depressant efficacy what your thoughts were on taking an anti-depressant. Here are the results:

"Yes!" 22.7% (FS) 43% (Kos)

"No way" 34.1% (FS) 30% (Kos)

"Um, maybe" 14.8% (FS) 15% (Kos)

"Only with a gun pointed at my head" 28.4% (FS) 10% (Kos)

There were 88 votes on Furious Seasons and 205 votes on Daily Kos.

I find it interesting that "Yes!" couldn't muster a plurality on either site--and each site definitely has different dynamics when it comes to mental health issues.

Thanks for voting! More polls coming.

Yes Phil, you balk about a plurality not being reached, but I wonder what would have happened had the general populace (many of whom don't need or are anti-psychiatry) been balanced more appropriately or weeded out from the poll? Come on now...you know exactly what I'm talking about.

god only know what the results would be then. would be interesting to know.

"Yes" didn't achieve a majority, but if you break the results down into the standard Yes/No/Don't Know, then it did in fact reach a plurality on Kos, if barely, at least according to what you've posted here. It seems like Kos readers have much less of a problem with antidepressants than your readers do, which isn't terribly surprising.

The problem is akin to smokers after they stop for many years, or anyone who has quit something after years ago. They forget hubris. Keep doing what you are doing, hell with what other people think.

I didn't vote in part because I couldn't decide how to. On one hand, I seem to be more functional on SSRIs than off them, even when the side effects are considered. However, I have no real way of knowing if that is the placebo effect or the effect of the SSRIs themselves. Do I wonder why I am putting myself through the side effects if they aren't really helping? Of course. Do I worry what I would be like if I got off them, even through responsible tapering? Of course. So my answer is yes, no, and don't know.
