See That Big Gaping Hole On My Page?

Over on the right where the Google ads were? Yesterday, Google suspended my ad account, suspecting malicious clicks to my site. I have appealed their decision (as I am mystified by what went on) and pointed out to them that I did nothing to violate their terms of service. I also told them that I noticed a large uptick in ad clicks in the last few days, which I expect is due to several possibilities: One, I gave a successful lecture at a college campus last week; two, maybe I am developing a highly engaged readership that would naturally click on ads and that Google has ads that are attracting their interest; and, three, perhaps I've developed either a reader with extreme OCD who clicks on my ads all day, or, maybe I have a malicious fan on the Net who is trying to harm this site by doing malicious clicks (something I obviously cannot police) in order to cause me trouble--because, as much as I hate to say it, there have been some weirder than usual things going on around this site lately (nothing I'll share publicly yet) and I have my hunches.

Certainly, Stephany over at Soulful Sepulcher has attracted her share of creepy fans of late. Check this out. And this. I, too, have concerns of this nature.

I expect to hear from Google sometime on Thursday.

Sadly, all of this happened in the midst of a bad day. An actual journalism job for which I traveled out of town to interview and for which I thought I was a strong candidate is going to someone else. With so few jobs open in my field these days, I am very concerned. Other journalism jobs I have applied for are with employers such as MSNBC who never bother to even reply and literally every pitch I've sent a major magazine in the past year has elicited zero response. Just an awful year for me in that regard.

Maybe something good will happen and I am doing my best to keep my spirits up and push on. Not easy to do in the midst of all the rain and dark and damage we've had in Seattle lately. In the morning, it's barely light before 9.30 a.m. this time of year.

For now, I am going to step away from this site for much of today, even though I know there are matters that require my attention. In the meantime, please go read this great post by CL Psych who busts a doctor for hiding suicidality data related to an anti-depressant we all know and loathe.

Until then, enjoy that big gaping hole on my page!

This is interesting. Are you able to check out Red Rover's IP address? If somebody's engaged in some kind of futile act of sabotage, then it's likely that they'll have hidden their tracks, but you never know...

Herb went very quiet, when I tried to engage with him, too - 'though I'm not sure that that means anything. I'll implement a strategy of neutralization, if you like?

Hang in there Phillip. And keep warm and dry.

Posted by: Sally at December 5, 2007 04:32 AM

Herb? Well, I banned his IP when he came to visit me, can't stop him from visiting, but if you know who's around, you can keep an eye out. You should be able to tell who's doing it from your stats Philip.

...and uh, I wasn't going to mention it, but it's a "gaping" hole in your page, not a "gapping" hole.

;0) Nevertheless, I will try to enjoy it.

Dear Matt,

Thank you for thinking of me. While I’m still alive and well I still have personal challenges and I simply do not live my life through a computer. I do use it as a tool for learning and sharing my respectful thoughts with others. If you did try to engage me I apologize for not responding simply because I most likely never read your posting and/or question. I do not read all of Phillip’s posts nor does Phillip choose to post one of my previous responses which would have served as an example for this topic. I read those topics which are of interest to me and when appropriate and I have something to offer, I respond.

Thememoryartist,

At least I hope that you’ve learned that I don’t hide my IP address and the fact I posted no response to your site only means you offered me nothing of interest to discuss. Now that you’ve indicated, “I banned his IP when he came to visit me, can't stop him from visiting, but if you know who's around, you can keep an eye out,” I certainly feel your one-sided or narrow viewpoint certainly has little to offer me.

Dear Phillip,

Welcome to the wonderful and sometimes hateful world of the Internet. While I personally have found this world of immense benefit in educating me and assisting and advocating in my efforts for my spouse’s wellness I have also encountered some truly hateful and malicious individuals. As I told you previously and privately, my original website was hacked and destroyed. I also have individual(s) as I explained to you who troll my activities from site to site offering up their slander and defaming me behind the cloak of anonymity. I do hope your efforts with Google are far more productive than my prior efforts with Yahoo but you too are getting a sad taste of what goes on.

With notoriety comes these demented characters and their maliciousness. It simply is a part of Internet life and life in general.

The fact that I may have differences of opinion and share those opinions does not constitute malicious acts. The most contrarian act I have perpetrated on this forum, in my opinion, is to tell you what I think of Puckett affronts privately and to discuss the dogma and similar affronts of Sally and Francesca publicly. Incidentally, I use an ad blocker so many ads are not viewed by me and I simply do not click on any ads not blocked. I directly research whatever it is that I am looking for or have interest in purchasing.

I do sincerely wish you success in your efforts to achieve employment and less stress.

Warmly,
Herb

To Matt and to everyone on this site: I hate insinuations. In fact, I can't even see any Google ads because I use Mozilla/Firefox with Avast script blocker which blocks all Google ads on any site I visit. So stop suggesting that I sabotaged this site, particularly when my views differ from yours. I hate bullies.

To Phil: try looking for a marketing job at large law firms in Seattle which always need good writers to promote their legal expertise.

This is my last post on this site.

Posted by: Red Rover at December 5, 2007 09:27 AM

To Herb:
No worries. I just find it a bit odd when a conversation is left hanging...

To Red Rover:
I've read your comments on Soulful Sepulchre, and I don't think that they were very helpful, notwithstanding my lack of background knowledge of what may have prompted them. I suggest that you try to avoid making personal attacks: be sure that what you're complaining and the thing that is troubling you are one and the same thing.

Suffice is to say that I don't think that it's in your mouth to be accusing anybody of bullying.

Matt

The only "dogma" I adhere to is the principle of informed consent. Why is the concept of human rights for those with psychiatric labels so threatening to "supportive" family members?

Dear Herb,
The fact that you DID post a response on my "about" page is what gave me your IP, moron. I did not post your comment, and banned your IP.

I'm glad to see your supposedly healing and obviously practicing that which you've learned these many years. Is there and old saying something to the effect that "Abuse begets abuse?" If so, you've learned well.

"Since adolescence I have wondered why so many people take pleasure in humiliating others." --- Alice Miller

You post items of information but obviously comprehend little of the meaning or simply continue to propagate the legacy.

Thanks again for your thoughts but the only thing that you're hearing is misguided perceptions being served on a platter and in my opinion based upon your response that both of you seem to have a very long road to hoe.

Here's wishing you continued wellness.

Warmly,
Herb

You're a troll Herb, and trolls can be dealt with whomever they are. You're obviously a liar too.

Why thank you “thememoryartist” for reminding me that I did respond to your attempts at “humiliating others.”

And thank you for posting that which I had forgotten. I find it also interesting and nice to read that you seemingly censure, edit and/or delete from anyone differing with your thoughts; so you never posted my comments, huh. Glad to know you practice freedom of speech; that is your speech only.

The only value to what you offer is that I too should be so fortunate to be “thememoryartist.” With aging sometimes comes the loss of memory of items less important such as your previous attempts at humiliation on this forum and my response to those attempts on your forum which you never posted. Obviously you’re one to dish it out but unable to take it.

Alice Miller’s article you posted to your site is nothing more than to take up space and show your ability to cut and paste and the one sentence which I quoted (see below sentence) still falls upon your blind eyes and misperceptions:

"Since adolescence I have wondered why so many people take pleasure in humiliating others." --- Alice Miller

The fact that you posted a link to your site on Dawdy’s forum when you attempted to humiliate me and I in turn was interested enough to quickly look at your blog site offering and I responded to you on your site constitutes being a troll; then I am a troll. I now also remember I posted to Dawdy’s topic on his forum first and you followed. What does that make you?

Lastly, as Puckett the future attorney would hopefully point out, the fact that one does not remember a particular event does not necessarily constitute that one is lying. What it means is I forgot that I did post to your site. That’s a fact. Then again, you’re another so easily able to assign labels ("Since adolescence I have wondered why so many people take pleasure in humiliating others." --- Alice Miller)

Warmly,
Herb

Thememoryartist,

While I am at it let this “moron” additionally add to your labeling and inability to cut anyone some slack:

I hate to have to admit it but I may be falling into this group of individuals, the troll, moron and liar that I am based upon your intellect and certainty.

Herb,
There is no blog comment Bill of Rights. I don't need to post anything you write. My blog is not for big-mouthed, dogmatic, biopsychiatry bags. There are plenty of forums for that, like this one, where you get to say whatever you want to the people who have been severely damaged by psychiatric treatments. I think that's what makes this site so attractive to you. If you had a comment for me and Puckett to respond to from this blog, this is where it belonged, not on my blog, and now it is here.

Interesting that you cling so dearly to the Alice Miller post, as if you've ever read a piece of her writing. I bet that woman scares the hell out of a misogynist such as yourself. You spent 45 minutes that evening digging through my blog to pick out that one quote from one of the few posts that I did not write myself.

You read my "what you need to know about this site" and ignored it completely, out of all that "respect" that you show to others who do not share your view of the dominant paradigm.

Don't worry Herb. No one is going to take away your right to control every aspect of your wife's existence.

Warmly,
thememoryartist

Dear Francesca,

“The only "dogma" I adhere to is the principle of informed consent. Why is the concept of human rights for those with psychiatric labels so threatening to "supportive" family members?” --- Francesca Allan

I cannot speak for others other than me. Human rights are not a concept for me. It is a right for all with or without any illnesses!

My wife is not a “psychiatric label”. She is my lover, my friend, my confidant, my life-long partner and the mother of our daughter and the grandmother of our granddaughters, sister and niece and friend to many who love her. She is not a psychiatric label; she is a living, breathing and thinking individual.

What you may think and/or distort in your mind as it applies to loving, supportive and caring family and friends are in my opinion your own personal issues projected and/or transferred upon others.

Warmly,
Herb

You know red rover, I don't like insinuations or bullies or MEAN people.

Interesting how you've glossed over the shitty comment you left on my blog.

I wonder WHY you were so interested in my daughter's story, pressing for information on this blog, then carrying over to mine.

As a matter of fact no one knows me, or my family. Go ahead and make judgements, if it makes ya all feel better.

Phillip,

Philip, this breaks my heart. On many levels. When we were kids everyone wanted to be the next Woodward and Bernstein.
The thing is, you are one of the few real good journalists out there, in the 30s, 40s mode that would have probably written rings around Hemingway as you share a pint and tall tales. Maybe that's the problem. You can really write. You need to dumb it down to get a job probably, and unfortuantely great works of journalism or literature arent' being written. I had a novel rejected because it was "too literary" and the run would have been under 10,000 copies. Which is funny in hindsite, if you get ther irony.

Anyway, keep up the fund drive, we all need to send you something for your stocking. Let us know how to `help you. You help so many of us.

Regarding Stephany, she is a doll.
She is one of my friends and has a heart as big as your state if not bigger. She is the kind of person who bends heaven and hell for her friends and family, and she has been nothing but a great mother to her daughters- all of them. I don't know how she does it.

For the readers questioning Stephany, what would you do if that was your daughter? Let her rot in a hospital that is more bedlam than hospital? Saying something and doing something are two differnt things. Of course it's easy for us to Monday morning quarterback- with anything in life.

But to knock someone who has spent almost the last decade of her life to helping and adovocating for her daughter? She should be praised to the skies not stoned.
