Bristol Myers Busted By Own Employees
Last week's $515 million settlement reached by BMS with the Department of Justice was reportedly as a result of internal whistleblowers at the company, according to this press release from the National Whistleblowers Center. The settlement closed a case brought by the feds for all manner of bad behavior--including kickbacks to doctors--for prescribing and stocking a range of BMS products including Abilify, an atypical antipsychotic. It's not clear how much of the settlement related to Abilify.
I'm glad to see BMS has some employees with integrity. So where are all the whistleblowers at Lilly, AstraZeneca and Janssen/J&J telling authorities about how those companies pushed Zyprexa, Seroquel and Risperdal and attempted to cover up injuries associated with the drugs? There's got to be one. Or are the commission checks that good in the neuroscience sales world?
