The Zyprexa Chronicles: Egilman And Lilly Settle On Zyprexa Documents

Pharmalot is reporting that David Egilman, the Brown University doctor and expert witness who was instrumental in getting the infamous Zyprexa documents into the public realm late last year, has settled with Eli Lilly on claims the company had against him as a result of a court order back in February. According to Pharmalot, Lilly's PR machine is already weirdly spinning the settlement and Egilamn's lawyer is firing back. Read the details at Pharmalot. Some background from me is here.

Egilman is paying Lilly $100,000, which the company is donating to a group that runs clubhouses for people with chronic mental illnesses. That's nice of Lilly. Perhaps, the company could also kick down for some free glucose meters in the bargain. (Note to Lilly and its outside attorneys: I am only kidding about the glucose meters.)

No word yet on any pending action involving Jim Gottstein, the Alaska lawyer who was also involved in getting the documents into the public realm and against whom Lilly reportedly has legal claims.

Great work by Pharmalot's Ed Silverman, who beat the New York Times and the rest of the media on this story.
