Babies On Anti-Depressants In New Zealand

This is just startling: In recent years, hundreds of prescriptions have been written for anti-depressants in young children in New Zealand. Almost 5,000 anti-depressant prescriptions were written for children under 10 in 2004/05, but the figure dropped to 2,425 in 2006. Some of those getting the meds were less than one-year-old. Good Lord.

Insert my usual babble about depression not existing in babies and there being no research whatsoever to support such treatment, etc. Why on earth would you even give a baby cough medicine much less an anti-depressant? Then again, in the US we have the Rebecca Riley case to point to as an example of just how out of whack our medical culture has become. I bet there are many other Rebeccas out there.

What kind of social experiment are some doctors conducting in this world? What the hell is wrong with these kids' parents? I mean I can understand the justification for medicating children in extremely rare circumstances, but not on the scale on which some docs are playing the game these days. (Thanks to a reader in New Zealand for passing this along.)

This just boggles the mind! One year olds on anti-depressants..!! How can one even begin to diagnose someone that young as being depressed...is not crying enough a symptom, at that age?

Or maybe crying too much and somebody wants their babies to be quieter? Either way, sad and scary. Brave New World-social engineering at its worst. What about the physical damage that could be done to so young a brain and body?

It's a total war on humanity. They're creating the new and better breed. What will happen to those of us who don't conform? To resist means each of us has to know in the gut that what they're trying to kill is not a bad thing, it's not a good thing, but what it is to be human.

You know when I raised 3 kids under age 5, I worried that they would have an allergy to honey or eggs due to feeding it to them before /during age 1. Hot steam shower/bathrooms for congestion, I can't imagine giving a baby any drug. Not to mention all of those drugs pass through breast milk. I have a remedy for those parents: it's called a rocking chair.

Social experiment --Hell Yes-!!

I think the next Big thing in NZ will be classing kids as bi-polar-::its just started-there are psys trying 2 address what’s happening here but hell Drugs are so much cheaper than any-thing else

This story has already dropped off the radar-hell the Rugby World Cups on-
Shit its just the poor any how’s-I do feel this is large part of it-fix the social ill’s with pills.

Link at botton does best coverage of stories and will keep this one going with follow up stories etc does the best coverage of this story and will follow it-re-Parents letting their kids go on these drugs-who knows-hey.
We live in a world where parents can have their kids taken off them 4 NOT drugging them.

I feel that parents hands are tied in some cases--I think class comes into it Big time here-
Ive tried 2 access stat break-downs before-very hard 2get the figures.

Sounds like a bunch of Munchausen by Proxy Moms (i.e. NAMI). Can parents actually argue that babies are suicidal now? A danger to others?

Can parents actually argue that babies are suicidal now? A danger to others-

NO-as they use SSRI+s for any thing from bed-wetting too a child being outta sorts-theres a scheme being run in Scotland on a housing scheme 2
ID babies as BPD-They also are just doing the reserch and have NO follow up help if needed-

Wow-it all a mistake-I wonder if its like the money Government found just before the election mistake-?

While openly acknowledging the error, PHARMAC is reassured that overall the data is robust.
The revised figures show:
That 91 prescriptions could be identified for preschool children and none of them were in the 0 to 1 year olds. Assuming one prescription is written each month, this would

translate into less than 10 children under 6 receiving antidepressants in the 2006-07 year.

Approximately 14,000 prescriptions were written for children between the ages of 6 and 17 which is consistent with the original figures.

The number of prescriptions written overall for anti-depressants remains confirmed at 1.125 million for the 06/07 year.

So do I believe it-?--Umm No-Election next year-Iam having trouble believing lots-

Approximately 14,000 prescriptions were written for children between the ages of 6 and 17 which is consistent with the original figures.

So the heats off because Phamar are saying that kiddies under one are not being drugged-no one raised the issue about children age 6 being given SSRIs-so that’s this off the radar-wow-rugby really is the drug of the ppls-Well just behide SSRI”s-NZ runs on rugby

"Sadly, in primary care, mental health remains the poor relation. In hindsight I fear that public health depression awareness campaigns have been more about

boosting pharmaceutical sales than providing comprehensive treatment and stimulating the development of prevention programmes.

"The AUT University dean of health and environmental sciences, Professor Max Abbott

If any one rises this-more on story-I will past it on--

Iam going 2 follow threw story Via Psy Rights Group I go too-
