June 26, 2007Pledge Drive--Day TwoI cannot begin to thank readers enough for the $400 you contributed yesterday to me for my work here. I am humbled. But I'd like to be humbled some more. I'll leave that to you. The PayPal button is over on the right or, if you prefer snail mail, let me know by email and I'll shoot you my address. One interesting phenomenon: all of yesterday's contributors were women. I know this site has quite a few male readers. So come on guys. For those who didn't catch my initial post yesterday, here's how I plan to use reader contributions: "Aside from the nice idea of being compensated a bit for my time, I am using a 7-year-old G3 iMac, so being able to pay for an upgrade (even a used one) would be nice. As would buying myself a new office chair as I currently use an 8-year-old desk chair that is falling apart. In addition, my bandwidth, disk space and Movable Type license run to about $240 a year. I'd also like to be able to pay a designer for redesign work. It'd be nice to get some help covering some of that." As they did yesterday, my office assistants Katie and KC (yes, they are cats) thank you. As do I. Posted by Philip Dawdy at June 26, 2007 12:05 AM

Just leave it there until I get paid again, okay? I'd be delighted to contribute, but I have a lot of month left and just a tiny bit of money. I'll hit you next month. Posted by: Rose at June 26, 2007 12:40 AMTell the meow meows to email me. I have a catnip toy for them and a check for Phil. As one cat lover to another, if kitty isn't happy you cannot type. If you figure out who I am through PayPal, I'd appreciate keeping the anonymity. (You know how us journalists tend to put 2 and 2 together.) Posted by: Marissa Miller at June 26, 2007 12:16 PMI would like to see photographs of Katie and KC equipped with wicker baskets lined with hot water bottles, catnip toys and odour-free flea collars. I cannot stress the importance of treating your office assistants with respect - if you're not careful to implement meaningful staff-retention policies, they may decide to go piss on someone else's porch. Posted by: Ruth at June 26, 2007 08:23 PMI'm on social assistance/welfare and can't afford to give.Sorry. Posted by: Mark(p.s.2) at June 26, 2007 11:22 PMUh, I'm not sure I did this correctly as my receipt states you are being shipped to my home. Posted by: Lisa at June 28, 2007 03:02 AMha ha Lisa that is too funny! Posted by: Stephany at June 28, 2007 01:24 PMLisa, A llittle birdie once told me that Phil is acutally quite handsome. Let us know when he arrives at your home. Is he coming FedEX or UPS? Posted by: susan at June 28, 2007 05:16 PMLisa, I received the following information on my receipt: "PayPal offers a free buyer complaint resolution service that offers a quick, easy resolution to your concerns. It covers physical goods purchases made through PayPal... " So if, upon delivery, you conclude that the little birdie needs new glasses (I seem to recall 'another' Ruth commenting on here about how 'cute' Phil looks in his), it appears that PayPal will be able to offers a quick, easy resolution to your concerns, should Phil be unable/unwilling to. Posted by: Ruth at June 28, 2007 06:44 PMEveryone here is so gaga over Philip. In my opinon, the only reason why this site perists is becuase Philip is the type of person that women go gaga for. If any other person was running this site, it would not do nearly as well. It really is true. Posted by: Gwen at June 28, 2007 09:51 PMSusan, not sure if Phillip will be arriving by UPS or FedEx. I'm a little concerned he won't match my decor. So, I was relieved to hear Ruth say there is a conflict resolution process should I not get what I paid for. Hey, does this mean I bought Phillip? Phillip, I OWN you! Gwen, you found me out. It is true. I have found that when I'm trying to pick up men the best thing I can do is start talking about my visits to the psych ward. It wins them over every time. Posted by: Lisa at June 29, 2007 08:35 AMPost a comment
