Drive Over: KC, Katie Appear

Thanks everyone for your support of my work. The drive brought in $1,050. I am humbled by your generosity in ways I really don't have words for, but it's stunning to me. Seriously.

I apologize for not posting pics of my cats last evening, but I developed a truly nasty headache--I think I've been in front of too many computers for too many hours the last few weeks, and did quite a bit of intense reporting for outside work the last couple of days. I'm still lame however.

That said, here's KC who is about to turn 4-years-old.

And here's Katie who is 7-years-old. I had a better picture of her but for some reason I cannot get it to work.

Both of my office assistants thank you for your support.

BTW, the PayPal button will stay up permanently for anyone who missed this go-round and wants to contribute later. In addition, I am likely going to put AdWords--those annoying little Google text ads--on this site in the next few weeks. Mostly as an experiment in how this media-by-blogging paradigm is really shaking out for writers.

Again, thanks to all of you. I am now wrestling with myself trying to figure out whether to spend the proceeds on a brand new Mac or a used Mac (and that would depend on how long Apple plans to support the G4 chip) and other necessities for the "office." Going to a WinTel machine isn't really an option for me. I hate the Windows operating system.

So adorable.

I'd invest in the brand new Mac if you can. Get the 3-year warranty if you get an additional $250-300. If you're lucky, there'll be an Apple store within a 20-mile radius of your home and you can bring your comp if it breaks down. They'll fix it on site.

Congrats on hitting the $1,000 mark.

P.S. I'm going to try AdSense and see how that works.

Oh they are so beautiful! Now go buy a chair.

KC and Katie rock!

I would really recommend a new Mac, not a used one. We have an iMac G5, an old iMac G3, and a brand new MacBook. The new Macs are more reliable, and in a few years software is not going to be made for the old G-processors, since Apple use only Intel processors now. Also, they really have gotten quite affordable. You get way more bits and bytes for your money. Unless you want to upgrade again in a few years, get a new one. It'll last you longer.

Your cats are gorgeous. We have two cats too...they make me so happy.

Go for the new computer! It makes much more sense as an investment to go new.

If you have a monitor and keyboard already you could get a mac mini for a lower price.

Oh, they're gorgeous. I bet KC keeps you organised and productive while Katie makes coffee and answers the phone.

My dad's really on top of this stuff, and he said Mac will support the G4 chip for a long time, so I woudln't worry about buying a new computer. Also, and this is from what I know, Mac's aren't nearly as suseptable to viruses and all that evilness that Window's are prone to getting, so you're proabably good.

However, I personally hate Macs; they're annoying as hell. I have a sweet little Sony Vaio: 2.8 pounds, 10 inch screen! Yep, it was a fortune -- $3,000 -- but it was worth every penny!

So yeah, I always like to be really expensive and spend the most money possible (to my parents dislike) but hey, getting a used Mac is by far the better choice in this situation.

And, I LOVE your kittys!!! I LOVE cats!!! I have a cat and he's going to live forever. I love him.

Phil! your cats are so wonderful! i miss mine! I'm in the Serbia and have been spreading the word on FS to all psych-inclined parties I meet. Keep kicking ass!

My vote is for a new chair. A new computer is lovely and shiny and useful (if you current system is ghetto enough), but a proper chair is essential. Your body will love you for it.

Beautiful kitties. Your KC looks like my beloved Cleo who died 5 years ago.

I am glad to see these beauties. Thank you for sharing.

Go with the new Mac + extended warranty. The manufacturers are getting much, much better at timing things so they break in just over three years, so why invite trouble by getting a computer that's just entering the danger zone?

I'm on my second iBook/Macbook and have utilized both the warranty and extended warranty features. Worth every penny.

And back up your data. Often.

If you hit another 1,000, will KC and Katie re-appear?

Posted by: susan at July 3, 2007 08:45 AM

sure thing susan!

Posted by: Philip Dawdy at July 3, 2007 10:04 AM

Yay! Kitties! I love kitties.

I think one fab kitty should show their cute face at the 1500.00 point and then the other at the 2000.00 point. I also think there should be a link to "the Furious Seasons Commenter Kitty Family." Don't you guys? :)

Posted by: Stephany at July 4, 2007 07:25 PM

Yes Stephany. A kitty link.

I know it's stupid, but it's little things in life, like our furr balls, that keep us sane and happy.

And all great writers have had cats. Phil has to be added to *that* list.

They are beautiful!

I remember reading that Philip has already bought the chair and the computer.

thank you for the link Susan! :)
