May 08, 2007'Shroom Away DepressionDoctors at Johns Hopkins University are set to study magic mushrooms in treating depression, following a study last year that showed that, in addition to making people trip, psilocybin helped treat depression. OK, so in the last year or so we've seen positive results using small doses of ketamine to treat depression, as well as positive reulsts from 'shrooms, and there are all sorts of anecdotal medical "research" establishing that pot has similar effects, so I just cannot wait to see the first study that pits marijuana, say, against Prozac. I guess there is a reason that people have been taking these and similar other compounds for eons. Posted by Philip Dawdy at May 8, 2007 12:01 AM

Mushrooms? If they are going that route, why not something with a better known side effect profile, like opiates or pot? ... I guess if the people in the study begin to hallucinate, there is always seroquel or zyprexa to counteract that pesky little effect. mushrooms *sigh* Posted by: d at May 8, 2007 01:51 PMThe earth houses most botanical treatments for what ails us. It's the man-made chemicals that are causing some real problems.btw Prozac-type stuff is naturally found in bananas. That's why people calm down before public speaking or singing, etc. if they eat a banana 30 min. before stage time. Well, I have HPPD, I think. Hallucinogen Persisting Perception Disorder. And I am not too happy about it. I have very bright colors at times on a lot of stuff, especially packaging on products in stores, store signs and especially neon signs. The world looks a lot better this way, but I still don't like it anyway and want it to go away. I got it from hallucinogens, and I was not a heavy user by any means. A lot of others have it way worse than I do, and some of them got it from mushrooms. I don't recommend anyone use psychedelics at this point, and I used to be an advocate and even a dealer of them for a while. I remember once I had 1000 hits of LSD in my top drawer...
