I Get An Award From Lilly, Hell Freezes Over

So I found out yesterday that I am getting an award on Saturday from NAMI's Washington State affiliate. It's one of the "Heroes in the fight" awards that NAMI and MHA are doing and it's sponsored by Eli Lilly. I'm sure that the irony of this is lost on few readers of this here blog. The cool--and very flattering--bit of this is that Lilly doesn't control the awards, but they are handed out via nominations from peers in the mental health system in Washington State. Not sure who nominated me, but I'll be there on Saturday getting my award along with a few social workers and doctors, etc. Pretty cool.

I cannot wait until Lilly's PR department catches wind of this. Maybe they'll begin to return my queries on Zyprexa and the like.

Man, I just love it when things like this happen. Go smirk all the way up to the podium or stage or whatever. NAMI and Lilly both -- I'm not sure which one is more ironic actually. But hey you deserve any and all awards wherever they may come from. Keep up the great work.

Ask them all to raise their glasses and just as they are about to toast tell them to pop some of Lilly's pills into their mouths - reminiscent of the scene from the Erin Brocovich movie :)

Great work Phil.

Philip--

Congrats! How nice that Lilly "sponsored" the award, but had no say otherwise.

Hubby--a 50-year diabetic--checked into the LillyforLife 50-Year Insulin Award (for diabetics who have survived the disease for 50 years or more.) Not only was the application long, but the attached PROMOTIONAL PROGRAM CONSENT AND RELEASE form was mandatory and stated: "recipients may be asked to take part in publicity events, and photographic likenesses may be used for activities associated with the LillyforLife . . . or other Lilly non-advertising initiatives."

Hubby concluded that he didn't need an award that in any way could promote this evil company. He feels that he survived diabetes IN SPITE OF Lilly, not because of them, and he certainly didn't want a picture taken with ANYONE who cheerleads for this company.

Bob--THAT is classic.

I think Philip should announce that there was a new anti psychotic spray introduced to the market; and is being trialed at the award presentation. Zy-Spray, the airborne way to medicate an entire room.

Actually-- maybe he should announce that AstraZeneca created Sero-Quench, and that is in fact the water the audience is drinking.
