05-17-2007 Media Madness

Looks like me and a few other bloggers have pissed off a few other bloggers in the mental health world by saying some chippy yet necessary things about this whole subthreshold bipolar disorder business. Apparently, I've been called an ass and an idiot. Hm. Or maybe CL Psych was. Anyway, CL Psych has a roundup.

My response to all this? Yawn.

Liz Spikol quotes yours truly in her Philadelphia Weekly column on outpatient commitment in the Keystone State. Thanks, Liz.

Well the comment about ass-ripping is from a comment thread from www.crazymeds dot org [great info site btw]on their chat board. Looks like they are reading all of this sub bp talk as anti-medication talk.

One person refers to commenters here as stupid and being fished into believing bleh bleh bleh.

One thing that completely baffles me:

Where does it say that Furious Seasons is anti-med? Hell the author of the blog as articles written about personal struggles with bipolar disorder and 18 years of medication compliance and a successful career on top it all.

Read Cl Psych's blog link--and read Maddy's thread comment.

I feel the need to sign in with one of those stats under our names now like those places:

My name:
Meds: Lamictal, Xanax
DX: Bipolar II
"strongly believes in neuroleptic withdrawal;hates pharma reps but uses free samples,is pissed that Zyprexa kept information secret; etc.Caution, my comments can appear anti-med.

That really cracked me up. Those boards remind me of being in the hospital.

Patient 1: "Are you voly or involy?"

Patient 2: "Voly."

P1: "What are you in for?"

P2: "Depression"

P1: "I had that, but now they say I'm bipolar. What are you taking?"

P2: "They just changed my meds and I don't know what they are."

P1: "Oh. Well be careful. They are really pushing Seroquel. That patient over there just started it."

P3: [drool]

P1: "She asked for the PI sheet for Seroquel but I don't think they gave it to her."

P3: [snore]
