Documentary Matters And Such

The Zyprexa documents are now available on a German website. They are available as single .pdf documents or as one big old file. They are also available as searchable text. I haven't the faintest as to who did all that work, but good for them. Rob Wipond also continues to host them in Canada.

I am getting a number of tips from readers on all manner of things. Thanks. I appreciate it. It'd be great if you guys just emailed me directly instead of leaving things in comments (it's a bit easier for me to manage). Or do both, please.

In addition, there seems to be quite a bit of interest in this story in Australia. More on that later.

The website says: "Observers report that the shenanigans involved in the Zyprexa scandal make it one of the worst pharmaceutical scandals in the last decades not only because of the large number of victims. Asked if Zyprexa could be the "next Vioxx," Curt Furberg, a respected professor of epidemiology quoted an attorney familiar with such cases "This is worse than all else I have seen, there is no chance that the company can let this go to court, then everything is made public. They have to settle the case.""

The German original:

"Nach Ansicht von Beobachtern gehören die Vorgänge rund um Zyprexa nicht nur wegen der hohen Opferzahl zu den schwerwiegendsten Pharma-Skandalen der vergangenen Jahrzehnte. Auf die Frage, ob es sich bei Zyprexa um das "nächste Vioxx" handeln könnte, zitierte der angesehene Epidemologie-Professor Curt Furberg einen mit solchen Fällen vertrauten Anwalt kürzlich mit den Worten: "This is worse than all else I have seen, there is no chance that the company can let this go to court, then everything is made public. They have to settle the case.""

I use Windows Desktop Search (a free download is available at the Microsoft website) to work with the files. Wait for the initial indexing to complete (takes a little while). Then search for a keyword in the TXT directory, e.g. "Martha", "FDA", "Viva Zyprexa", or "Tohen". The text preview window in Windows Desktop Search gives you a quick impression of each the relevant files. Both the file name and the header of the txt file indicate the name and the page number of the pdf file to open for a closer look.
