Friday Links

I would be remiss if I didn't pass along some links to interesting posts that others are doing on mental health and such. Especially since CL Psych has several posts up that are amazing. Just read them here, here and here. See what I mean for yourself.

Also, Intueri has this on an ad for Abilify on phone booths in Seattle. I've known about this for a few days but in the rush of other stuff haven't posted on it myself. Ads for antipsychotics on a phone booth? BMS has got to be fucking kidding.

And Liz Spikol is leaving her post as managing editor of Philadelphia Weekly next month to work for the Pennsylvania Prison Society. I think that's spectacular fit for her. She'll continue to do her fine blog and the column in Philadelphia Weekly.

CL Psych:

Seattle area private hospital. Owned by a large national company. It has a contract with the State of Washington for payment. Primarily treating teens that are foster kids/wards of the state on the way to an RTC.

Uses medication on kids and teens.Though blaming child for behavior issue, and focusing primarily on controling behavior. Yet loads them up with psychiatric medications. 'Behavior' such as jumping from moving vehicles, or cutting wrists for example are deemed 'behavioral' problems;and the child is told to learn how to pass time in a more positive way. (and don't forget to take your medication cocktail that can consist of 5+ psychiatric medications, largely Abilify,Prozac, Zyprexa to name a few.)If you look on the map of sites, they have one in Arkansas as well.

Corporate control of the American mind with the use of psychiatric medications. Corporations and Pharmceutical companies. Now that is what I call 'Love American Style'.
