Here's an OT question, perhaps too broad: do you think the term "mental illness" is useful?

Why I ask: I came to this blog semi-randomly, indirectly, via a discussion about racism on Sly Civilian/FreeSlave/Asabagna, where people were arguing about FreeSlave's analogy between racism and "mental illness."

I realized by looking at the comment threads and my own reactions, how broad the term is, and that I didn't really know what it meant.

First, i wish you a happy new year and good luck with finding a job.

Second, I didn't follow this comment on your blog : ".....tweak my individual entry archive code so that it more nearly resembles the main page". If you just want the font to change on the archive page, edit your styles-site.css , replicate .blogbody (all style info for it) , and change one of them to .content

Third, I wanted to suggest writing more provocative and controversial posts along the lines of Web2.0 & Narcissism. Draw attention to the blog from people other than just us moody peeps. Will come in handy when commercializing the blog.

Re: your dichotomy on wanting Google ad's but indigestion at the thought of an ad appearing next to a criticism of a med or pharma, Crazymeds.org has some wise words for you: "...Pay me directly. We'll still mock you mercilessly, but we're not above taking your money. Just because you buy an ad here doesn't mean we endorse anything you're selling. We may even make fun of you on the page where your ad appears. That's the risk you run. At least I'm honest about my agenda. "

You have a choice: make Google richer by taking a cut of their profits in the process, or criticize them and all the greedy corporations and feel like a hero with a zero for holding up a pseudo-moral position. Are your blog fans here because of your content or because you have no ads on the site? In fact, it will be funny if you blasted Zyprexa and Lilly on an entry with their ad was placed right next to it. Now there's a way you can show the stupidity of targeted ads.

Actually, I have avoided carrying ad's or even Amazon book links on my forum, partly because I'm opposed to it, and partly because I don't need it at this point. But if I started carrying them, my regular members will continue to visit and get over their disappointment at the "sell-out" soon enough. Most of the loyal members of my forum will flee if some pharma company started a forum and paid participants for exclusive contributions to their site, won't they? As a matter of fact, some people are already doing that. We will all sell our souls, if the situation warrants it; we just pretend we have indestructible morals. What is something you wouldn't do if a terrorist held a gun to your head and asked you to do it?

Here's wishing you a new year filled with provocative, controversial posts, show-me-the-money attitude, more recognition and a "job". If there's something specific you need help with on the blog format, let me know.
