The Final Countdown

So I will go into my office at Seattle Weekly for the final time this morning. Although my new boss told me last Friday that he was fine with me doing work for them for another two weeks, he told me yesterday that he wanted me out of the building promptly. After four and a half years of doing some pretty decent work there, that's just damn disrespectful. But I'll get over it.

You know, I'm sorry. That is going to be hard, and I think it's sad and an insult as well. I wish it was better weather for you on a day like today.
Walk out of there proud, you made a difference, and will continue to do so.

It's also time for the "Tip Jar".

Sometimes, boots are made for walkin'.

Well, you called it. I've had to do that "You have 15 minutes to get your things" (also at a deeply dysfunctional newspaper after a buy-out), and the best revenge is living well. There's a boost right as you walk out the door, actually. Just remember to protect the credit card until a new gig shows up.

Seattle Weekly's a sinking ship anyway, and you were the best writer they had, so axing you is like cinching down the last screw on the coffin lid. What are they thinking? Well, I know what they're thinking--everyone saw this coming with The New Times takeover--but still. Best wishes.

"Workin in some factory
Well thats no way to spend your youth
I worked there for a week once
I luckily got the boot"

I am so sorry that everything is going down the way it is, but I guess that sort of treatment is expected from assholes who don't know what the fuck they are doing. Sometimes it takes time (especially for idiots) to realize the bad decisions being made. The manager that tried to make me quit (but later fired me) was eventually heavily questioned about the actions he made and eventually lost his job. The customer was not happy that he let me go because they loved my work. It was of course a year or so later when they finally figured out he was complete asshole schmuck of a manager.
I of course always think things happen for a reason and one thing is for sure, you are too good for that place. Your talents will take you far and this last gig may have been holding you back in some ways. Especially over the last year or so when the new management took over.
Let's get drinks soon!!! hugs ~~Tracy

Time for your book!!!!! You are going to be the one with the last laugh when your career soars to new heights and that paper sinks. You put your heart and soul into many of the articles you've written and your readers as well as the editors who once made that paper great know that. Grieve the loss as you should but keep your chin up, you are better than that b.s.

"Lost my job, now I can stay up all night long.
Fired me from my job, people, I get to sleep all day long.
Lost my job, now I gotta go steal and rob."

Nothin like a little Alex Chilton to put it in perspective.

As a working writer myself I almost envy you, it's a hard and merciless low-paying burden, but writers need to write and you, sir, have readers who need to read what you put out. I can't wait to see what comes next.
