One Outrage, One Bit Of Thanks

A frequent commenter here left a comment yesterday that pisses me off and not at her:

"For once I will keep this short. My doctor DID tell me Seroquel was equal to Lithium."

Fucking-a, could we get some sense of proportion out there amongst some of the MDs who appear to be going for Seroquel as if it were some kind of brain Viagra? Hell, hearing that such talk is out there in the mental health world brings me to one of those "that's when I reach for my revolver moments." (I refer to the Mission of Burma song, nothing more.) Let these same docs take 600 mgs. of Seroquel a day for a few weeks and, then, possibly re-evaluate their thinking.

And now: thanks to many of you readers who have sent me kind thoughts recently. I appreciate it.

yes. a doc a few years ago prescribed seroquel for depression, this was before my bipolar diagnosis. and then it's been suggested several times since by two different docs after i've told them diabetes runs on both sides of family.

it's all very scary. and pisses me off.

sorry to hear about the job.. but as you know, it always works out. everything happens for a reason. as tacky as that sounds right now...but something better is around the corner.

For me, that is nothing less than an infuriating bit of incompetant advice. I once had a shrink who not only had me misdiagnosed but had me on 800mg of Seroquel. I am not only correctly diagnosed now but Seroquel free and feeling better than ever. I don't think this was a malicious action on the part of the doctor but inability to listen in the 30 mintues she provided me and lack of undterstanding on how toxic Seroquel is on a day to day basis, especially in high doses. As my research into pharma meds and speaking with medical professionals continues in my life, it appears that some seem to read only the information provided to them by the makers of these toxic drugs and not ALL patient responses to these possibly extremly harmful medications.

Okay, rant finished.

The doc also assured me that anxiety was totally covered by Seroquel.
Doctors don't tell you about side effects, especially anecdotal ones such as horrible nightmares.
