November 04, 2006I Quit!My job that is. At Seattle Weekly, where I have been a staff writer for four and a half years. I resigned under duress, but don't feel like sharing details. No, I don't have another job awaiting me. For the first time in forever, I am winging it. Posted by Philip Dawdy at November 4, 2006 07:56 AM

Hi, Phil. I'm just on my way out the door. But feel free to call me this afternoon. Posted by: John McManamy at November 4, 2006 08:01 AMOh My God Philip. Posted by: Stephany at November 4, 2006 08:29 AMyou and spikol should totally wing it together! by that i'm trying to say start your own bp magazine and get rid of that stupid bp world horror of constant pharma glossy advertising campaigns... you guys can get into streaming video content too, with liz knowing all there is to know about youtube. and you're both smart enough to convince jane pauley to fund you! and and you should also be able to get tom cruise to give you some dough, no scientology strings attached! and and and to make liz happy, also get brooke shields on the board of advisors. it'll be a smashing success, dude, i am telling you and as liz will tell you, i am a genius when it comes to predicting the future. Posted by: z0tl at November 4, 2006 10:41 AMSuch a loss for the readers of the Seattle Weekly. The documentary that was based inspired by PHILIP'S work was entered into a film contest and unfortunatley was not a semi-finalist though it is an amazing film. It appears it will be entered in the big 3 film festivals. I wish I could share it but because of film festival entry rules, I cannot. Just be assured, it is an amazing film, with a strong message entitled "stigmanity." A mix between humanity and stigma. I guess the Seattle Weekly management is not impressed enough that a Philip's work is made into a film and will be entered into the biggest fil festivals in the world. So sad. Posted by: Angie at November 4, 2006 10:52 AMBTW, good luck with the next chapter. There's a lot of room in this world for talented, award-winning journalists. Hands-down you were one of the last remaining good reporters the SW had on staff. Change isn't easy, and who likes it, but I'm betting you have a damn good future in front of you. Philip, When I heard about the new publishers and all of the other turnover at the weekly I wondered if they would lose their best writer. I guess I have no reason to read the weekly anymore. Give me a call we'll grab a drink. E.P. Posted by: E. Prince at November 4, 2006 11:22 AMIn a way, thanks. Now I don't have to think about the SW anymore. You were the only person left worth reading. Good luck on whatever it is you do next. You should talk to Clark Humphrey over at Miscmedia.com, he's been making noise about something new for a while. There are so many great journalists in Seattle with no outlet, it's strange that there's been so little done to get them together.
