October 26, 2006Jane Pauley Sues The New York TimesAmerica's reigning most-famous bipolar and former talk show host Jane Pauley is suing the New York Times. The complaint in her lawsuit is a bit tough to follow, but indicates that someone passed themselves off as a Times reporter and scored an interview with Jane, then the interview appeared in a paid advertising supplement (which is to say it was an advertorial. not reported copy) that appeared in the Times' magazine and carried ads for all kinds of psych meds, including ones from Eli Lilly (likely either Cymbalta or Zyprexa). Somehow, NMHA's name appears in all of this—and I have to wonder if the non-profit wasn't somehow used by the advertorial people as a conduit to contact Jane. Man, I cannot wait to see how this one plays out. Posted by Philip Dawdy at October 26, 2006 08:48 AM

My parents are getting me a tutor for school. I can't comprehend the reading. I try reading but nothing makes sense. Like last night my mom spent six hours doing all my reading for me, and then typed up all these notes so that I'd be able to write my paper. She's so nice, but she doens't always have time to do stuff like that so they're getting me a tutor. Last night I was just crying and crying and crying becuase I can't read anymore. I might have to drop out of school. But hopefully getting a tutor will make it better... Posted by: Gwen at October 26, 2006 08:12 PMGwen, My 23 yr old was very frustrated for the same thing. The reading was becoming more and more impossible for her to keep up with or get through and comprehend. ALL of her Prof's now work with her on due dates and workload, and she has a "card" that states she has more time for exams, etc. to: Accomodate her needs w/ her mental illness. You just have to ask, you have a right to an education what ever level you are at in school. The tutor also should be given to you from the University, and not paid for out of pocket. Anything less, they are taking advantage. It took my daughter a few months to get her stuff in place and now is able to enjoy University life again. Good luck, hang in there, and make sure to remember some one can be a scribe for you or read for you, as an accomodation. I do this for a job myself. Take care, Stephany Posted by: Stephany at October 27, 2006 08:37 AMInterestingly, this is why I am always upfront and tell others I am not a reporter. I ask such detailed questions (because I am that way)they question me. (if I am one). It's become my personal disclaimer lately. Hi Stephany, Thanks for your support. And I'm interested to see what the abstract says... My doctor says there's nothing physiologically wrong with me, like I'm perfectly capable of reading (we did some tests)... but whenever there's any anxiety involved, I subconsously THINK I can't read and therefore I can't. Coversion disorder. He said he sees another person just like me, except with him, it's talking he can't do. Anyway, it's strange and frusterating and it's ruining my academic career. But hopefully getting a tutor will really help, and this whole thing will just pass. I'm really hoping for that. Anyway, thanks Stephany for being there for me. Thanks for the abstract, Stephany. Pretty interesting. Sigh. I hope this whole thing goes away soon. Thank you. Gwen Posted by: Gwen at October 28, 2006 07:44 PM |
