September 26, 2006No More Nicey Nice TherapyHere's a decent opinion piece in today's Times on how nurturing psychotherapy actually misserves patients. Time for therapists to get tough, or tougher, in this doc's mind. Posted by Philip Dawdy at September 26, 2006 09:53 AM

I totally agree. Given my situation and your situation Philip, we were smacked down by discrimination and chose to take the high road. Rebuild our lives into something better. I get a little tired of listening to (bipolar people specifically because that is my target group) who get dealt a bad hand and just lay down and play victim. God knows I bitch and moan about my situation daily, over 2 years later but I am healthier, happier and moving forward. Shit happens, it happens to everyone. Sometimes it takes people longer than others to deal with it but I know once I got off my ass and stopped obsessing about what happened to me, I became a more productive, happier and functional person. Maybe one day I can share that experience with others. Posted by: Angie at September 26, 2006 06:16 PMtotally agree Angie. Landing butt-first into stuff and picking ourselves up and walking on...that's what I do too. I whine or piss off, but am constantly moving forward. I know in the last year, keeping a constant flow of movement helped me cope, and I refused to go to a NAMI group, etc, because of the group of women I heard whining so bad in mental health court. I can't stand that 'woe is me shit'. One of the ways i coped with my stresss, life, and mental health was to volunteer a lot of my time, try to get my job hours in, which was a challenge due to the time of day my job requires, it was often at times i had to be in meetings, etc. even now, in the so-called victory slide-into-homebase, my daughter is well category...the anxiety level for me rose up, I drank too much wine, and cut that back and dove head first into new volunteer work, that I like to say, is helping my heart heal faster than laying on a psych or therapists couch and whining. Taking action has always been my version of cognitive behavioral therapy. I'm usually known for ranting and spewing my words out by typing, on my way out the door to serve others. Just me, but I can't sit still. Taking the high road is a smart road, it has less stress, and moves forward positive energy. I pretty much live on the high road. It's good up here. :) --Stephany Posted by: Stephany at September 27, 2006 08:22 AM |
