Yet Another Important Study Is Out

In a newly-released study in the American Journal of Psychiatry, researchers report on an NIMH study in which they gave Zyprexa to kids who were believed to be at risk of developing psychosis and full-blown schizophrenia. The basic hypothesis: If we treat psychosis before it happens can we then prevent psychosis. Answer: sorry, Eli Lilly, but that little market segment ain't going to pan out for you. Here's an account of the study from the New York Times. I'll comment further once I've read the study in full.

I'm going to comment before I even read that study. "If we treat psychosis before it happens can we then prevent psychosis." This could be the strange answer, if there ever will be one, as to why my daughter can't go off of Zyprexa without becoming pscychotic, she was started on it at age 11, and at 16 &17 when she was taken off of it, she had psychotic breaks, this last one could be long term, like in forever. Some say, that she could have been on it for no reason, and now her brain could be damaged, used to living with it, some say something could have been there all along and Zyprexa did prevent the inevitable that we had no idea was brewing. There is a study somewhere from Australia I think, that shows schizophrenic brain scans having abnormally sized pituitary glands, comparing the brain scans of non -schiz. The larger the gland the more probable, the word is probable, not diagnostic, the person can/could end up with psychosis. Like a red flag in the head. I asked many docs to do a scan paying attention to the size of that gland, and they said it wasnt diagnostic, we have "what we have". I didn't want dx, just to know, is there something there that is there. We have what we have, doctors love to say that. I want to know why we have what we have. Don't we all?

I'm really happy: I just wrote my first article for the UW newspaper, and it turned out well! I'm really getting better and better and writing these news articles... when I first started at the Weekly, my first drafts weren't that hot, but now I'm really getting the hang of it! It's nice. I'm going to have such fun being a journalist!

{Only 9 percent of American adults think the pharmaceutical industry is trustworthy}

I was prescribed Zyprexa from 1996 until 2000.
In early 2000 i was shocked to have an A1C test result of 13.9 (normal is 4-6) I have no history of Diabetes in my family.In Dec 2005 i made first discovery of the Zyprexa Diabetes link.
