May 03, 2006I Won An AwardOrdinarily, I'd link to the press release or whatever and move along. But there's nothing to link to. So, anyway, I won the award for Best Coverage of Mental Health from the National Mental Health Association yesterday. I'm doubly flattered since it's the second year in a row I've won an award from NMHA (the competition, I am assured, is judged by throughly-sober noted journalists). I'm flattered. With luck, I'll be able to make it to DC in June to pick the thing up--shit, I need a vacation anyway. Thanks to those of you who read my blather here for all your kindnesses in the past. Back to the regular shit. Posted by Philip Dawdy at May 3, 2006 12:03 AM

Congrats! and not a surprise at all. Your coverage, your stories youve written are so GOOD, that I have read them several times. You have a way of capturing the reader, taking them into the world youre writing about, and keeping it gripping to the end of the article. It was your article 'No exit" that I read long before my daughter went there, that gave me any real information about how it could be there, never thinking I would walk through that front entrance, where it says "Dedicated to Mental health". It prepared me. Interestingly, I have a speech ready to lobby with on Cap Hill,in DC, I want to hear the Mental Health bell rang. I want to get in the face of elected officials and demand parity, with a photo of my daughter in her better days. There have to be better days. "Truth is the secret of eloquence and of virtue, the basis of moral authority; it is the highest summit of art and of life."~ Congrats. Just stumbled on your blog via Google's blogsearch and I'm glad I did. I look forward to future visits. Thanks for the resource. Posted by: Dave at May 4, 2006 06:22 AM |
